DUNCAN KEIR, ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY.
COMBINED MOP Application filed June 14,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DUNCAN Kine, a citizen of the United States. residing at Atlantic City. in the county of Atlantic and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Mops and VVringers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in mops and has for an object the provision of a combined mop and wringer.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the above character in which the mop may be entirely removed from the water container during the wringing operation, so that water may be entirely removed therefrom if desired, provision be ing made whereby the amount of pressure during the wringing operation may be regulated.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a mop which includes a pres sure member or pressure arm adapted to engage the mop when the latter is in use and to also provide means for mounting the squeezing roller of the wringer.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a combined mop and wringer constructed so that the wringer may be quickly and conveniently operated and the amount of wringing pressure regulated so that the water may be entirely squeezed therefrom 01' only partly removed as desired.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation showing the mop in position for wringing, a water container being shown in section.
Figure 2 is a view illustrating the position of the mop in use.
Figure 3 is an enlarged plan View of the mop.
Figure 4 is a section taken substantially on the line 44 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary side view with parts shown in section.
Referring in detail to the drawings AND VIRINGER.
1924. Serial 'No. 720,096.
wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the invention is shown as comprising a handle 10 which has pivotally secured thereto as indicated at 11, the opposite ends of a substantially U-shaped yoke or lever 12. This yoke or lever extends over the handle and has pivotally secured thereto a pair of bearing arms 13, the pivotal connection between the arms 13 and the yoke 12 being eccentric with respect to the pivots 11 as shown at 14, so that operation of the yoke 1.2 will move the arms 13 longitudinally, as will be hereinafter ap parent.
Secured upon an axle 15 which is mounted in the outer ends of the bearing arms 13 is a roller 16 and secured to and adapted to be wound upon this roller is a mop cloth 1?. For the purpose of conveniently wind ing the mop 17 upon the roller, the shaft 15 has extending therefrom a crank arm 18 which carries at its outer end a handle or grip 19. This grip is capable of rotary and longitudinal movement upon the crank arm 1.8 and friction-ally held against acci dental movement by means of a spring 20 which bears against the connection between the grip and crank arm and against a collar 21 provided on said crank arm. The grip may thus be moved to the position shown in Figure l of the drawings for the convenient rotation of the roller 16, or may be moved to an out of the way position as shown in Figure 3 of the drawings when the mop is in use.
Extending from the end of the handle 10 is a pressure member or arm 22, the latter being provided with a curved end 23 which is adapted to engage the mop 17 so that pressure may be exerted upon the mop to move the latter over a floor or other surface, as shown in Figures 2 and 4c of the drawings. In addition, this arm 23 acts to guide the mop as the latter is being wound upon the mop roller 16 as shown in Figure 5 of the drawings.
The arms 13 are provided with longitudinally extending slots 24 and passing through these slots is a shaft 25 whose opposite ends are mounted within bearing arms 26 which extend from the pressure ries a squeezing roller 2? so that this roller is stationar with respect to the roller 16 and as the shaft 25 provides a guide for the arms 13 when the yoke 12 moved pivotally the roller 16 and the mop thereon may be moved into squeezing content with the roller 27, so that the roller 16 ma be rotated to squeeze water from the mop. The amount of squeezing pressure is regulated by the pressure upon the yoke 12.
The handle 10 is provided with a hearing member 28 which is adapted to engage over the edge of a bucket or receptacle 29 as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings so that the device may be conveniently rested upon the receptacle as the water is squeezed from the mop.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its :torni proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly tall within the scope of the appended claim.
Haring described the invention what is claimed is:-
in a combined mop and wringer, a handle a yoke pivotally mounted thereon, rentrii-ally pivoted bearing arms secured to the yoke and having;' longitudinally disposedv slots therein, a roller mounted between the outer ends of said arn'is, a mop carried by and adapted to be wound upon the roller means whereby the roller may be rotated, a pressure arm rigid with the handle and adapted to engage the mop when the latter is in use, bearing arms carried by the pres; sure arm. a shaft extending through the slots of the eccentrically pivoted arms and carried by the bearing arms, whereby the shaft will form a guide for the eccentrically pii'oted arms and a squeezing roller mounted upon said shaft for engagement by the mop carrying roller when the yoli'e is moved pivotally.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signaturi DUN CAN KEIR.
