Description

H. SCHWARTZ PNEUMAT I C TOY Filed May 9, 1924 A ORNEY Nav, 2d, 1925i,
UNITED STATES HARRY SCHWARTZ, OF NEW YORK, N, Y.
PNEUMATIC TOY.
Application led May 9, 1924.
To all @0710711y t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HARRY SCHWARTZ, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York city, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toys and in particular to one embodying the features of a novelty.
in object of the invention is to provide a toy which when operated by the person understanding the same, will work in an ordinary manner, but which when operated by a person unfamiliar with its structure, will operate to spray flour or powder into the face.
A. further object is to provide a novel toy having a pinwheel member which together with a whistle may be operated to amuse the user.
A further object is to provide a toy of this character which can be manufactured cheaply and in large quantities.
Referring to the drawings wherein I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention,
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, a part thereof being shown in section of a toy novelty constructed in accordance with my idea.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the same, and
Figure 3 is an end elevation taken at the mouthliiece end of the toy. l
Referring to the drawing in detail, 5 indicates the body of thetoy which is hol.- `lowed as at 6 to provide an interior chamber, a cover 7, being positioned on top of the body to close the top of the chamber. rlfhe cover may be provided with a suitable stopper 8, which will allow refilling the chamber 6.
Extending longitudinally through the o body 5, beneath the chamber 6 .is a bore 9,
the forward end of which is provided with a reed or like sound emitting member l0. A tubular mouthpiece 11 is insertable into said bore 9, so that air may be blown therethrough and through the whistle 10.
Serial No. 71 1,952.
The forward end of the body 5 is provided with the standards 11 having supported therebetween a suitable pinwheel 12, which is adapted to be operated by the passage of air through the mouthpiece and whistle against the blades 13 of the pinwheel. rifhe end of the mouthpiece is provided on the side thereof with a suit-able opening 14, so arranged that when the mouthpiece is revolved, the said opening 141 may be brought into register with a suitable passage-way 15, connecting the chamber 6 with the bore 9. In the position shown in Figure 1, the opening 111 is not in register with the passage-way 15, therefore, when a stream of air is blown from the mouthpiece and whistle and strikes the pinwheel 12, the latter is revolved and the whistle is blown. lWhen the mouthpiece is revolved so that the opening 14 is in register with the passage 15, the air blown from the mouthpiece will not only operate the whistle and the wheel, but a part thereof will enter the chamber 6 which is filled with Hour or other like powder 16, and cause the same to be blown through the small openings 17 in the body 5, disposed above the mouthpiece 11. 'Ihe powder blown through the openings will of course, strike the face of the blower.
I may provide on the box a marking 18, and a similar marking 19 on the mouthpiece, so that when the two marks are in register, the opening 14 in the mouthpiece will coincide with the passage 15, but when the marks lare separated, the whistle may be safely blown without any disturbance of the flour or powder'. The tube will normally close the bottom of the passage and the powder being of an adherent nature will not tend to fall out of the passage-way.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided an interesting and novel toy which can be utilized either as a whistle or as a trick toy when desired, which will give amusement to the user.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
A toy comprising a body portion having a powder chamber therein and a longitudinal fgbore beneath said chamber, said bore and chamber having a communicating passage, a Whistle in the end of said bore, a pipe adapted to be rotatably held in said bore and I having a side opening adapted to register with said passage, the chamber having an opening' in one end thereof whereby when the Whistle is sounded the powder will pass through the chamber opening, a mark on said pipe, and a mark on the body portion, 'said marks When in register indicating that the side opening of the pipe and The coinxnunicating passage are in alignment.
'HARRY SCHWARTZ.
