UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
IRVTIN COHN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR 'lO IR'WIN & COMPANY, INC., 0]? NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
TOY TRUMPET.
Application filed December 31, 1926.
The object of the present invention is to provide a toy trumpet having the novel characteristic that when the trumpetis blown a small figure mounted upon the trumpet raises the trumpet horn or other instrument to its lips, the representation being that the figure itself is producing'the sound by blowing the trumpet.
The invention will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation showing in dotted lines the action thereof;
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the tie vice;
Figure 3 is a vertical section on the line 33, Fig. 2;
Figure 4: is a detail view of the swinging arms and instrument carried by the figure.
In the embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing the Figure 1 is that of a do In practice any suitable figure may be used, such as an army bugler, a child, etc. The figure is hollow, may be constructed of celluloid or similar light material, and may act as a rattle, as shown in Figure 3 where the interior of the figure contains shot or the like, as indicated at 2. The figure is mounted upon a trumpet 3 having a mouth-piece 4 and an outlet member 5.
Any suitable sound device may be employed in the trumpet. In the present embodiment a whistle element 6 secured within the trumpet near the outlet 5, which element may be replaced by a reed or the like. \1
The arms 6*, as shown in Figure 1, are provided with hands represented as grasping the model representation of a trumpet or other musical instrument 7, and the hands 6 are cupped on their underside a to receive the blast of air emitted from the out- Scrial No. 158,152.
let member 5 of the trumpet when the latter is blown. The outlet member 5 is so formed as to deflect the air upwardly so that it strikes the cupped underside of the hands 6 and raises the armsb to the dotted line position, Figure 1, so that the figure appears to be blowing the instrument 7 The pivotal connection between Figure 1 and arms 6 is provided by short stems I) at the inner ends of the arms, which stems fit loosely within annular apertures 0 formed in the figure.
It will be understood that various modifications may be made in the form and arrangement of the device illustrated in the drawings, without departing from the spirit of the invention. For example, the arms may carry a flag, or beotherwise' employed, instead of grasping a musical instrument as in the embodiment.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows 1. The combination with a wind soundproducing instrument of a figure mounted thereon and provided with swinging arms, the representation of a musical instrument held by said arms, and means provided at the outlet end of the sound-producing instrument for deflecting the air against a surface of the arms, thereby raising the instrument representation to the lips of the figure.
2. In combination, a trumpet, a figure mounted on said trumpet and having a head with features, swinging arms carried by the figure, a musical instrument held byv said arms and means carried by the trumpet for deflecting the wind against a surface provided by the arms to cause the latter to raise and carry the musical instrument representation to the lips of the figure.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
