Description
SARAH HAIGHT.
` Metallic Sprlin'g Shoe-Laces. No.156,218.` Y Y Patented 0ct.27,1a74.
UNITED STATES PATENT CEEIGE.
SARAH HAIGHT, OF LEAVENWORTH, KANSAS.
IMPRVEMENT IN METALLIC SPRING SHOE-LACES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,218, dated October 27, 1874; application filed January 28, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SARAH HAIGHT, of Leavenworth, in the county of Leavenworth and State of Kansas, have invented certain Improvements in Shoe-Laces, of which the following is a specication:
The nature of my invention relates to an improved shoe-lacing, which will exert a constant binding influence to keep the front parts of the shoe together, and at the same time allow of elasticity, as occasion requires; and it consists in a spring, spiral, rubber, or otherwise, formed by links into a chain, the joints between the links being provided with hooks, which'engage with eyes on the shoe, alternately from side to side, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings, Figure l is a full-sized View showing my improved lace deta-ched from the shoe. Fig. 2 is a view showin-g a shoe in the perspective with the lace attached; and Fig. 3 is the retaining device for the hook.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a shoe, and. B B suitable eyes or sockets thereon. G is the hook, formed at the intersection of the links F, which, as shown, are of spiral spring or coiled wire. The hook is preferably made of wire doubled, so that theinner ends furnish two arms which are attached to and connect the links. The hooks engage with the eye D on the shoe, and the links pass from side to side, as shown. v D is the retaining device, which is attached to the shoe, and into which the hook engages.
My invention exerts a continual and constant inuence, but will, because of its elasticity, allow a free action of the muscles of the person, and permit free circulation or respiration.
I claim- A shoe-fastenin g composed ofthe continuous elastic zigzag links F F, in combination with the hooks G and retaining devices D, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
Miss SARAH HAIGHT.
