COMBINATION :KNAPSACK, SHIELD, AND GUN REST.
` 'Appncnon fixed June 2a, 1925. serial No. 40,290.`
To all w/fom t may concer/2. j,
Be it known that I, ErfrHrMios NIzaMIs, a subject or citizen ot' the Government of Greece, residing at the city and county of Kalamazoo` State of Michigan,I U. S. A., have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Knapsaeks, Shields', and Gun Rests, of which the following is a specification. j j
` This invention relates to combination linapsack, shield and gun rest. j y
`The' main object of this invention is to provide an improved knapsacl; whichisalso adapted as ashield and as a gun rest.`
j A further obj ect' is to provide a knapsack which is effectively ventilated and which `afi'ords ventilation to the back of the wearer.
Objects relating to` details and economies of construction and operation of my invention will delinitely appear "from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention bythe devices and meansdescribed infthe following specification. The inventionA is clearly `defined and pointed out in theclaims A structure which is a preferred" embodiment of my invention is clearlyillustrated in the accompanying drawing, torminga part of this application, in which: j
Fig. I isa rear or outer view of" my improved knapsack,`the figure of a person carrying the same being indicated by dotted lines.
corresponding to line 3-3 of Figs. I and indicated.
Fig. V is a perspective view with the Fig. VI is a fragmentary sectional view In the drawing similar reference charac- Referring to the drawing, my improved bottom wall 3, end walls 4 and a hinged in- Fig. II is an end view. l
Fig. III is a transverse section on a line IV, the inner wall being shown in open position by dotted lines, the ground line being Fig. IV is an inside view with the inner wall or cover wall removed.
gun
rest mounted, a gun being indicated by 0tted lines.
corresponding to that of Fig. III of a slightly modified embodiment of my invention.
ters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
knapsack isin the form of a metal receptacle having integral outer wall 1, top wall 2,
ner wall 5 constituting a cover for the receptacle.
tially thickened so that The wall 7 which are extended upon the top wall 2to provide" strap loops 8 for the suspending straps 9.
The cover wall 5 is retained in its closed 5 is pivoted at' 6 in the pivot ears position by any suitable means, a` turn button 10 being shown. y j
The outer wall l has a longitudinal slot 11 therein with inwardly projecting langes` 12 at the edges thereof providing a Ventilating opening and also a` partition dividing the receptacle into compartments 13 and 14. The flanges or partition walls 12 terminate in `spaced relation to the inner wall 5 so that air may circulate into both of these compartments. j j y y The bottom preferably substana plurality of transverse passages 15 may be formed therein, these passages opening atthe inner side of wall 3 is the knapsack and intothe longitudinal passage 16 which `is open at its ends.
In `themodification shown in Fig. VI, the passages 17` have laterally turned ends 18 opening at the bottom of the receptacle.
Thereceptacle has pointed legs 19 and 20" adapted to engage the ground as indicated at 21 to prevent sliding about of the knapsack when placed on the ground. The legs 20 are alsofformed with notches 22 so that they constitute strap engaging members, the suspending straps 9 having loops 23 engageable with these legs.
At one end of the receptacle, I provide a loop-like support 24 for the gun rest 25, this gun rest having a tang 26 which may be engaged in the support 24.
In Fig. IV I illustrate the gun rest as disposed in one of the compartments. A gun 27 is indicated by dotted lines in position in the Gun rest.
May improved knapsack is thus adapted as a gun rest and shield and knapsack. The knapsack has the further advantage of being eifectively ventilated.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A structure of the class described comprising a metal receptacle having an inner wall constituting a cover Jfor the receptacle and a relatively thick bottom wall projecting beyond the outer wall ofthe receptacle and having a longitudinal Ventilating passage open at its ends and a plurality of transverse Ventilating passages opening to said longitudinal passage and at the inner side of said! receptacle, said receptacle having outwardly projecting ground engaging legs, and suspending strap loops on said receptacle, the upper pair of legs being conlformed to constitute strap attaching memers.
2. A structure of the class described comprising a metal receptacle having an inner wall constitu-ting 'a cover for the receptacle and a relatively thick bottoni Wall projecting; beyond the other wall of the receptacle and having a longitudinal Ventilating passage open at its ends and.: a plurality. of transverse Ventil-ating passages opening to said longitudinal passage and at the inner side of said receptacle 3. A structure of the class described coinprisi-ng a. metal receptacle having an inner wall. constitutingy a cover for the receptacle and a relatively thick bottom wall projecting beyond the outer wall o-,f the receptacle and having a longitudinal Ventilating passage open at its ends and a plurality of transverse Ventilating passages opening to said longitudinal passage and at the inner side of said receptacle, the outer wall of said receptacle: having a Ventilating slot therein with inwardly projecting flanges at the edges of the slot terminating adjacent` to but in spaced relation to said inner wall, said flanges constituting partitions.
4. A structure of the class described .com-- prising a metal receptacle having an inner wall constituting a cover for the receptacle and a relatively thick bottom wall projecting beyond the outer wall of the receptacle and having Ventilating passages opening at the inner side of said receptacle, said receptacle having outwardly projecting ground engaging legs, and suspending strap loops on said receptacle, the upper pair of legs being conformed to constitute strap attaching members.
5. A structure of the class described comprising a metal receptacleJ having an inner wall constituting a cover for the receptacle and a relatively thick bottom wall projecting beyond the outer wall of the receptacle and having Ventilating passages opening at the inner side of said receptacle.
6. A structure of the class described comprising a metal receptacle having an inner wall constituting a cover for the receptacle and a relatively thick bottom wall projectingr beyond the outer wall of the receptacle and having Ventilating passages opening at the inner side of said receptacle(` the outer wall of said receptacle having a Ventilating slot therein with inwardly projecting flanges at both edges of the slot constituting a partition.
7 A structure of the class described comprising a metal receptacle having an inner wall constituting a cover for the receptacle, said receptacle having outwardly projecting ground engaging legs on the side of the receptacle opposite said inner wall, and suspending strap loops. on said receptacle, the upper pair of legs being conformed to constitute strap attaching members.
8. A structure `of the class described comprsing a metal receptacle adapted as a knapsack and having a wall constituting a cover,A
and an outer wall having a Ventilating slot therein with inwardly projecting flanges in the edges of the slot constituting partitions.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
