This invention relates to cases for the storage and transportation of firearms. Hunters and sportsmen who take part in trap and skeet shooting contests usually have several guns with them. The guns are generally of the knock down type and each is contained in an individual case. Excessive space is required to store them when not in use as well as when they are being transported.

The object of my invention is to provide a novel casein which a pluralitycof guns may be stored and transported in a minimum of space and requiring a minimum of efiort in transportation and use. Other objects and advantages will be set forth hereinafter.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a case embodying the invention.

Figure 2 is an elevation of the opposite side of the case.

Figure 3 is an end view of the case.

Figure 4 is a cross-section on line 44 of Figure 2.

Referring to the illustrative embodiment of the invention, the case is formed with two side walls I, 2, of suitable flexible material such as leather, canvas, imitation leather, etc., the upper portion of one side, 2, being bent over so as to form the other side, I. A reinforcing bar 3 is inserted within the fold and secured thereto by rivets 4. The bar is in two sections that are hinged together at 4 in order to permit folding of the case when not in use. Straps 5 are secured at one end by the rivets 4 to the case and their opposite ends carry suitable means by which the said ends may be removably attached to the case, as by the eye snaps 6 adapted to engage the ends of the rivets, which project through the bar and sidewall. The straps 5 are of such length that while they are loosethey may be brought over a support, such as the robe rail or hanger of a motor vehicle, and then enaged on the ends of the rivets by the eye snaps.

Two partition walls of suitable material I, 8 are secured along their upper edges to the side walls and at their lower edges they are disposed respectively between the side walls and the collapsible bottom wall 9 and stitched thereto. The partition I is stitched lengthwise to the wall by the inclined seams Ill, H, whereby to form two tapering gun receiving pockets l2 that taper in opposite directions. The smaller end of each pocket is closed and thelarger end is open and is closed by a flap l3 adapted to be attached 2 to the wall by eye snaps [3. The partition wall 8 is similarly attached at 2| and 22 to the Wall 2 to form two tapering gun receiving pockets [4 which are closed at one end by similar flaps 23 and snaps 24.

The end walls l6, ll are vertically slit and the parts are secured together by the slide fasteners I8. The space l9 between the partitions forms a convenient place for storing ammunition and other articles. A flexible handle 20 is secured to the case intermediate its length by means of rivets which pass through the bars 3 and the upper portions of the side walls I and 2 so as to span the hinge.

It will be noted that the case is of such length that the pockets I2, [4 will receive the guns in set up condition and require a minimum of space. The straps 5 and the rigid, hinged bar 3, permit the case to be supported in a horizontal position, even on a flexible robe rail, so that the guns are horizontally supported and may be readily inserted and withdrawn, and danger of injury from an accidentally exploding shell in any gun so supported in the case is reduced to a minimum.

It is obvious that various changes may be made in the form, structure and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention. Accordingly, applicant does not desire to be limited to the specific embodiment disclosed herein primarily for purposes of illustration; but instead he desires protection falling fairly within the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim to be new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

1. A case for firearms comprising two flexible side walls, a bottom wall, a rigid reinforcing member extending the length of the walls between the upper portions thereof, means cooperatingwith each side wall to form two oppositely tapering gun-receiving pockets adjacent each side wall, and forming a storage space between them, means to releasably close the opposite ends of the storage space, each gunreceiving pocket being open at one end and having a flap to close the same and meansmounted on the upper portion of the case to support the case in horizontal position.

2. A case for firearms comprising two flexible side walls, a bottom wall, a pair of rigid reinforcing members hingedly connected and extending the length of the walls between the upper portions thereof, means cooperating with each of the side walls to form two oppositely tapering gun-receiving pockets adjacent each side wall, and forming a storage space between them,

means to releasably close the opposite ends of the storage space, each gun-receiving pocket being open at one end and having a flap to close the same and means mounted on the members to support the case in horizontal position.

3. A case for firearms comprising two flexible side walls, a flexible bottom wall, two partitions between the side walls and extending from end to end of the case and having their upper edge portions in contact with each other and stitched to the side walls, each partition being also stitched to the adjacent side wall in an oblique longi tudinal line of stitching whereby to form twogun-receiving compartments on and coextensive with the inner face of each side wall which taper vertically longitudinally in opposite directions, and also to form a storage compartment between the partitions, the lower edge portions of. the partitions being stitched to the side edge portiOns-of the bottom walland the side walls respectively, flaps carriedby the partitions and overlying theouter face of the respective side walls, and: means onsaid fiaps and, side wall to hold said flaps in overlying position toclose the larger; ends ofthe gun receiving; compartments.

4;. Carrying means forlong firearms, comprising a pair of rigid members, means connecting said membersfor folding in a horizontal plane, said connecting means being constructed and arrangedto-prevent relative movement of said members ina substantially' vertical plane, a case suspended from said members, said case having pockets for said firearms, and a handle attached toeeachwf; said members andbridgingsaid connecting means.

5.- Carrying means for long firearms comprising a'pair of rigicrmembers, a hinge connecting the members end to end for folding in a horizontal plane, said hinge being adapted to prevent rotation in a vertical plane, a case suspended from said members and having horizontally directed pockets paralleling said rigid member for receiving said firearms whereby the firearms prevent folding of the hinge, and a. plurality of straps spaced along said members and fixed thereto at one end, and fastening means on said members and: the free ends of said straps, whereby said case may be suspended horizontally from a flexible member.

6. Carrying means for long firearms comprising a pair of rigid members, means for connecting said members end to end for rotation in a horizontal plane while preventing rotation in a vertical plane, a case suspendedly connected to said members, said case having pockets disposed substantially parallel with said members for receiving said firearms whereby said firearms prevent rotationof said members in said horizontal plane, and supporting means for said case and members;
