IMPROVEMENT IN SCRUBBING-BRUSHES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,032, dated October 20, 1874; application filed July 27, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ELANDUS D. MILLER, of Scranton, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrubbing- Brushes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The nature of my invention consists in a brush pivoted in a handle, and provided with pivoted metallic frames for the attachment of a floor-cloth to form a mop, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, reforring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 a plan view, of my invention.

A represents a Scrubbingbrush, constructed in any suitable manner, and of any desired dimensions. This brush is pivoted, by means of.

screws 60 a, in a metallic frame, B, attached to the handle 0 and on the same screws are pivoted two metallic or wire frames, D D. These frames are constructed, as shown, to fit over the top and ends of the brush.

The brush being attached to the handleframe B by screws, it can readily be removed when worn out, and a new one attached with but little expense.

The metallic frames D D are so constructed that, when they are raised by turning them upon their pivots, the cloth for the mop can be easily inserted, either as shown in the drawing or otherwise, or easily removed.

It will be seen that the frame, when pressed against the brush-back, when in use, the cloth becomes clamped in its place, and is thus firmly secured.

The construction of the frames may be somewhat changed without departing from the spirit of my invention. In some cases I prefer to put teeth upon the inner edges of the frames to take into the cloth.

After a sufficient use of the brush or scrubbing part, the scrubber may be simply turned over, and the cloths being held firmly by the frames D D will act as effective mops.

The weight of the frames renders it unnecessary to bear down very hard upon it, as is necessary with most other scrubbers.

After the mopping is finished, by raising the handle so as to catch the end of the cloth, and wringing the other end, the cloth may be quickly and handily dried out.

I am aware that reversible scrubbing-brushes have been used before, and I do not claim that feature of my invention as new; but

I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a reversible scrubbing-brush and mop, the handle 0, pivoted to the sides of the brush, in combination with the metallic cloth-frames D D, pivoted to the sides of the said brush, constructed as described, as and for the purposes herein set forth.
