Description
Nov. 3, 1925. 1,560,124
K. F. VOLKEY OVERSHOE Filed Dec. 22. 1922 TTORNEY Patented Nov. 3, 1925 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OVERSHOE.
Application filed December 22, 1922. Serial No. 608,386.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, KATHRYN F. VoLKnY, a citizen 01 the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overshoes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to overshoes, the object being to provide a simple, inexpensive, and e'tlicient means whereby overshoes may be most conveniently applied to an inner shoe.
The invention consists in the provision of means for stretching an overshoe to distend the opening thereof. The invention consists also in the novel construction, adaptation and arrangement of parts as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure 1 is a perspective View of an overshoe embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is sectional perspective View of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan View of the rear portion of the overshoe, the upper part thereof being illustrated as being distended by tension applied to the pull-loops in directions indicated by the arrows thereon.
The body 5 of the overshoe may be of known construction, the heel portion 6 being shaped to frictionally engage against the counter of a shoe for retaining the overshoe upon the latter.
According to the present invention, I provide two pull-loops 7 located at the sides of the overshoe opening at the heel end and in spaced relations with each other.
As shown, said loops have an end of each secured to the upper edge of the overshoe as indicated by 8 in Figs. 1 and 3, or may have such end as indicated by dotted lines 8 in Fig. 2 secured within the overshoe structure.
The other end 9 of a pull-loop is secured to the outside of the overshoe.
By such an arrangement the loops protrude but a short distance above the top of the overshoe. The loops 7, one at each side, afford finger engaging means which enable the overshoe material to be drawn outwvardly as represented by arrows 10 in Fig.
3 to distend laterally the opening of the overshoes so that a shoe can be readily inserted therein.
With my invention, an overshoe may be worn which will fit an inner shoe so as to exclude dirt and water and be prevented from slipping from the shoe and at the same time rendered easily put on or taken from the shoe.
What I claim, is,
An overshoe, the upper heel portion of which is formed of extensible material with the edge of the opening adapted to lit frictionally around the shoe of the wearer, means whereby said heel portion may be distended when the overshoe is drawn on over the shoe, said means consisting of a finger loop on each side of the heel portion, one end of each of the loops being secured to the outside of the overshoe at some distance below the edge of the opening and the other end being secured to the inside of the overshoe.
Signed at Seattle, Washington, this 13th day of December 1922.
KATHRYN F. VOLKEY.
