SLIJDER. FOR SHOES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen BASCDMB WELDON, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sliders for Shoes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description thereof. i
y invention relates to sliders for shoes and has for its object the production of a device of this character adapted to be secured on the ordinary shoe to facilitate sliding upon iced surfaces, and to prevent wear of the shoe sole during such sliding.
A further object is to produce a device of this class which will be flexible and consist of but one piece of metal having means attached thereto for securing it to the shoe, and one that may be readily sold for a few cents to the user.
Other objects such as cheapness in manufacture, utility, durability and a general improvement in the art will be more fully brought forth in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
While I have shown one preferred form of my invention in the drawings, I wish it eX pressly understood that various changes in design and detail construction may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective View of my slider; and
Fig. 2 is a side view of ashoe having my slider in position thereon.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the sole or body of my device as a whole, which is flat and has a peripheral shape substantially the same as that of a shoe. but having sharper angles, however, to facilitate its construction. At the front or extreme forward end of my device is an upwardly extending integral lug 2 having an aperture 3 therein surrounded by an eyelet 4. At each side of the body portion 1 to the rear of the lug 2 are formed side lug members 55 of substantial length. The lug members 5 extend upwardly similar to the lug member 2 and have apertures 6 surrounded by eyelets 7' therein.
The function of the lugs 2 and 5 is to form Specification of Letters Eaten-t.

abutting surfaces for the forward andside portions of a shoe sole 6 respectively. Adjacent the rear corners of thebody portion 1 are formed apertures 8-8 surrounded by eyelets 9.
The body portion 1 of my slider is of suncient length to extend back a substantial distance under the arch portionof a shoe thereby covering the entire surface of a shoe sole which normally comes in contact with ice when sliding.
A flexible member 10 is doubled upon itself and threaded through the aperture 3 in the lug 2 in a rearward direction forming a loop 11 and the free ends of said flexible member are trained around the outer periphery of the device and threaded inwardly through the apertures 6 in the lugs 5 and passed through the loop 11 crossing each other and passed rearwardly over the body portion 1 and threaded downwardly through the apertures 8 adjacent the rear corners of the portion 1.
The flexible member 11 provides for a novel and cheap retaining means which will securely hold the slider in position on the bottom of the shoe by forming substantially a toe portion at the forward end of the device under which the toe of the shoe is adapted to he slid and forming side portions 12 adapted to pass along the sides of the shoe to keep the device centered on the sole. The free ends of the flexible member 10 are adapted to be Wrapped or trained around the ankle of the wearer and secured as at 13, thus securely and firmly holding the entire device in position on the sole of the shoe a. Toe grips 141- are pressed downwardly from the body 1.
It will be readily seen that structure of my device is adapted to produce chcapness in manufacture and quantity production thereby furnishing an article which is within the reach of the general public and which may be generally used by children during the winter months for sliding. The device is adapted to be made from any suitable flexible material, such as a thin sheet of metal, thereby enabling the same to fit the curvatures of the sole of a shoe so as to prevent any rough surfaces or projections which would be liable to catch in the ice and trip the person using the same.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A slider for shoes comprising a conthe entire tinuous flat flexible plate having apertures adjacent its 'rear edge, front and side lugs formed integral with said plate and having apertures therein, and a flexible retaining member having a portion thereof passed inwardly through the aperture in said front lug forming a loop, the free ends of said member being trained around and passed inwardly through the apertures in said side lugs and passed through said loop, thence rearwardly and through the apertures in said plate, thereby forming adjustable flexible toe and side members adaptedto hold said slider in position on the foot of the wearer 2. Aslider for shoes comprising a continuous flexible plate having an aperture adjacent each of the front and side edges and other apertures adjacent each rear corner,
Gopies of this 'patentmay be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Washington. D. 0."
and a flexible retaining member having a portion thereof passed inwardly through the aperture adjacent the front edge forming a loop, the free end of said member being trained around and passed inwardly through the apertures adjacent each side edge and passed through said loop, thence rearwardly and through the apertures in said plate adj acent the rear corners, thereby forming adjustable flexible toe and side members adapted to hold said slider in position.
In testimony whereof I, the said GEORGE BASCOMB WELDON have hereunto set my hand.
GEORGE BASCOMB VVELDON.
