A comb case yE may be supplied for receiving the combi-l therein;` this comb case being of any approved material and formation, being entirely-openat its upper end, .and inthe tront-v wall` thereof preferably having a slot 36A extending. downwardly from the topl edge thereof,` and along`I which slot the headsA 301 and 31 of the rivets', and the/ball head- 2510i the tongue 23 may slide to `permit proper insertion ot the comb within the case E. i I iis to the application ot the comb and its case within the pocket ot ail garment F,. the comb and itsv case are slipped withinl the pocket 38 v'so that the comb and case'are entirely secreted within the pocket behind Vthe front flap 39 of the pocket.` Due to the spaced relation of the arcuate bight portion 21 of the attaching clip this arcuate bight portion mayV extend over the top' edgev of the flap 39 sothat thejspri-ng tongue 23 lies eX'- terior `oi the pocket. fla-.p 39. The comb and the caseV are entirely secreted within the pocket, and the only visible portion of the device is the spring tongue 23.- The comb may be used without the case, as is illustrated in the cro-ss sectional/*view in Figure 2 of the drawings, and in this instancethe comb is also invisible within the,` pocket the upper edge of the flap 39 Fittinginto the spacerin the arcuateportion 21 between the same and top edge 2820i: the comb p 4l-eiierring to the modiiied form of this invention thecomb C is of any approved 'construction, including the back 40 outwardly of which the Vspaced teeth 41 are formed". lAdjacent anend edge 42 ofthe comb C, and inwardly of a side of the back 40a pair of recesses 43and 44 are formed, which are arranged in alignment with the length of the back 40. y p K- The clip Dis-,of a novel construction, and consists of a substantially U-shaped attaching portion 48, and la spring tongue 49 connected to the portion 48 by means` of a bight 50. j
The U-shaped attaching portion 48 preferyof the invention or ably comprises the side legs 52. and-53which may" bev otequ'al length, 'and connected by a bight 54. The bight portion which connects the tongue 49l to the portion 48 is attached, as'at 56, to the portion 48 contiguous with the leg 52, and so that the bight portion 50'eXtends upwardly in a spaced relation with the bight-portion 54 of the attaching portion 48. The tongue 49 extends downwardly along, in spaced relation with the leg 53 of the attaching portion 48, and slopes inwardly, as at '57', adjacent its free end,.andat itsiiree end thereof is provided with a ball head 58.
In theV application ot the improved clip' D upon the conrb C the attaching portion 48 is slippedover the end of the comb. C so that the spacedA lugs-.59 and" 6,0, which. are formed inwardly in projecting relation on the leg 52, engage in detachable manner in; therecesses 43 and 44 ot thev comb- C. The legs and 53 ot the attaching porton48, olf course, grip the back of the comb i'n. a secure clam-ping rela-tion,` and the'biglrt portion 50 of the clip B extends upwardly above the top edge of the comb; the spring tongue 49 extending downwardly along a side of the comb with its ball 58V engaging the side of the comb, substantially as is illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawings.. Y
The application of the comb and clip. C and D respectively within the pocket F is obvious. The comb C is entirely hidden within the pocket k38; the `upper edge ofthe pocket Hap 39 fitting into thel space within the arcuatev bight portion 59 of the Clip .19, and exteriorof the pocket the only portion visible is the spring tongue 49, Y
From the foregoing description of this invention itis apparent that a novel comb and its attaching clip has beenv provided which enables the comb to be supported in a compact relation within the pocket and in- The clips cooperate in a visible therein. n ovel relation with. `the comb to-most effectively maintain the comb in an attached re'- Vlation to theap' of the pocket.
Various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may Lbe made tothe forms of the invention-herein shown? and described, without departing from the spirit the scope of the claims. IV claim v i.
i. In a device of the class described-the combination of a comb, and af U-shaped cla-Sp secured to the comb and comprising an` attaching leg secured to the comb by means of' rivets whichy at the oppositesidefo'f the comb from the side to which the leg is se'- cured provide a Vpair of spaced projecting heads, a bight `portion extending upwardly of the end of the comb in an arcuate relation thereover, and a resilient tonguezeX- tending` along thje opposite side of the comb from that side adjacent whichthe attach;-
ino' le is secured said tongue rovidinv at D b D its free end a ball shaped head extending into the space between the projecting heads of said rivets.
2. In a device of the class described the combination with an article to be supported, of a U-shaped clip, rivets securing the U- Shaped clip to the article and providing spaced heads projecting from a side of the article, said clip providing a resilient tongue with a head portion at the free end thereof normally urged into the space between the heads of said rivets.
3. In a device of the class described the combination of a casing providing a slot inwardly of the top edge'l thereof, a comb for disposition within said casing, an attaching clip, means securing the attaching clip to the comb and providing a. pair of spaced projections at a side of said comb which are adapted to ride downwardly within the slot .ot said casing when the comb is disposed within the casing, and an attaching clip providing a resilient tongue with an enlarged head at the free end thereof normally urged into the space between the projecting heads of said rivets.
4. In a device of the class described the combination with an article including an end edge, ofa substantially U-shaped clip including an attaching leg, an upper bight portion, anda resilient tongue, means Securingsaid attaching leg at a side surface of said article adjacent said end edge of the article so that the said attaching leg extends upwardly above the end edge of the article withy the bight portion of said clip extending in spaced relation over the endl edgeof the article to provide a space between vsaid end edge of the article and the under sur? face of the bight portion of the U-shaped clip, said resilient tongue Yextending downwardly in `spaced relation at the opposite side of said article from that side to which vf said attaching leg is aiixed. j
