UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STERLING H. CAMPBELL, F LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR T0 RAILWAY DEVICES COMPANY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION OFMISSOURI.
COUPLER-RELEASE RIGGING.
Application filed June 13, 1925.
1/ 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STERLING I-I. CAMP- BELL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing atthe city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, United States of America, have invented a certain new and useful Couplerltelease Rigging, of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description, as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to a coupler release rigging and particularly to that type of rigging in which a link having sliding movem'ent in the operating arm engages with the lock pin by means of an open loop.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate one form of coupler release rigging made in accordance with my invention, together with a portion of the end of a railway car to which the same is applied, Figure 1 is a front view; Figure 2 is a top plan view; and Figure 3 is an enlarged side view,
' partly in section.
Serial No. 36,952.
the body 13 of a link having on its upper end a head 14. The lower end of the link terminates in an open loop 15 in the form of a fiat spiral, that is, a spiral all parts of which lie in a single plane. This form of loop permits the link being engaged with the eye of the lock pin when the rock shaft is removed from the car but prevents the removal of the link from the eye when the parts are in position on the car. In order that the device may function properly to prevent the accidental disengagment of the link from the pin eye the loop should extend through appreciably more than a complete revolution, as shown in Figure 1.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with an operating arm, of a lock pin provided with an eye, and a con nector having sliding connection with the arm and terminating at its lower end in an open loop in the form of a flat spiral engaging the eye.
2. In a. device of the class described, the combination with an operating arm, of a lock pin provided with. an eye, and a connector having sliding connection with the arm and terminating at its lower end in an open loop in the form of a fiat spiral extending through more than a complete revo lution and engaging the eye.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto setmy hand this the 11th day of June, 1925.
STERLING H, CAMPBELL.
