UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MANSEL E. NAYLOR, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
LOCK.
Application filed May 4,
To all whom it may com-em:
Be it known that I, MANSEL E. NAYLon, a citizen of the United 'States, residing at- Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in locks and has for its object to provide a sliding door lock, catch and handle.
Another object of the invention is to pro- I vide a sliding door lock especially adapted for garages, barns, warehouses, freight cars, etc., etc., in which a 'hasp member is provided for overlapping edges of doors or door and frame.
With the above and' such other objects in view as will hereinafter more fully appear, I have invented'the device illustrated inthe accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a transverse section of a pair of doors, partly broken away and embracing my invention, 1
Figure 21s an enlarged elevational view thereof,
Figure 3 IS a similar view showing the latch member thrown open,
Figure 4 is a section on line H, Figure 2, and. 4
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 1, showing a slight modification.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the following specification and in the several views in the drawings in which 1 IS a sliding door and 2 either a sllding door or a door frame. These members are locked together by means of, my combined lock latch and handle. device 3, which combination Includes a; hinge member 4 hav-' ing stuck out wings 5 and 6 which form a bearing for the pmtle 7 upon \VhlCh the hinge end 8 of-the hasp 9 is rolled to com plots the hinge. The hasp 9 is bent atright angles at 10 to an extent equaling 'the thickness of the end 11 of the door 1 and terminotes in a parallel offset 12 having a bore 13 through'whieh the reduced threaded end 14 of the eranlrhandle 15 is projected. Screwed on eccentrieally to said end 14 is a latch member 16 which is adapted to project into the similarly shaped opening 17 of the latch plate 18 which is bolted to the sliding door, or fixed casing as the. case may be, 2. A recess 19 is provided in the memher 2 aligning with the opening 17, to receive the latch 16. The lower end 20 of mounted in theend of the first ner surface thereof, a 100 ner surface thereof, a loop 1920. Serial No, 378,766.
thelhandle 15 projects below the lower end 21 of plate and a staple 22; is hinged to the lower edge of said plate and is adapted to be swung over said handle 15, a fter which a padlock 23 is secured through the opening 24 in said lower end 20 of said handle; thus preventing the disconnection of the staple 22 with said handle, whereby the doors or door and easing are securelylocked together. Certain bolts 25 ofme-mbet 4 come under the hasp '9 when closed and the outer end.12 of the hasp covers the bolts 26 of plate 18 whereby said members can not be unbolted when locked.-
In Figure 5 I show, a slight modification in which the hasp 26 is straight so as to be used on doors the edges of which abut.
My invention is set forth in the following claims 1. A door fastener embracing a hingedplate and a fixed platehaving an opening, a crank handle carried by and rotatably having a latch to project through the openplate and I mg in said second plate and engage the in hinged to the lower end of said second'p ate and adapted to swing up over said handle. V
2. A door fastener embracing a hinged plate and a fixed plate having an opening. a crank handle carried by and rotatablvv mounted inthe end of the first plate and having a latch to project through theopening in said second plate and engage the inlower endof said second p to and adapted to swing up over said handle, said handle an opening for engagement with a having padlock. p
3. A doorfastener embracing a hinged plate and a fixed plate having an opening, a crank handle' carried by and rotatably mounted in the end of the first plate and hinged to the inner surface thereof, a loop hinged to the lower end of said second plate and adapted to swing up over said handle and means for preventing the release of said loop from said handle, said means consisting of a padlock engageable with the end of said handle;
5. A door fastener embracing'a crank handle and a latch and a lock securable to said handle whereby the latch is held in operative position, a loop adapted to swing over said handle, said lockbeing adapted to hold the loop in engagement with the handle.
6. A door fastener consisting of a sheet metal clasp having a fiat end, provided with an opening and a crank latch handle car,-
ried thereby and rotatably mounted in the opening, a fixed plate having an opening through which the latch projects, a U-shaped loop both ends of which are pivoted to the fixed plate and adapted to-be swung over said handle to hold the same against movement.
7. Adoor fastener and handle including a hinged plate having a rotatable crank handle carried thereby and a latch on the handle adapted to hold it against movement through said plate, a fixed plate having an opening into which latch projects and fastens, said last plate having a depending extension and means thereon for engagement with the handle.
8. A door fastener and handle including a hinged plate having a rotatable crank handle carried thereby and a latch on the handle adapted to hold it against movement through said plate, fixedplate'having an opening into which latch projects and fastens, said last plate having a depending extension and means thereon for engagement with the handle, said means consisting of a pivoted loop.
9. A door fastener and handle including a hinged plate having, a rotatable crank handle carried thereby and a latch on the handle adapted to hold it against movement through said-plate, a fixed plate having an opening into which latch projects and fastens, said last plate having a depending extension and means thereon for engagement with the handle, said means consisting of a pivoted loop adapted to swing up over the handle when in latching posltion.
1t). A door fastener and handle including a hinged plate having a rotatable crank handle-carried thereby and a latch on the handle adapted to hold. it against movement througlrsaid plate, a fixed plate having an opening into which latch projects .opening into which latch projects and fastens, said last plate having a depending extension and means. thereon for engagement with the handle, said means consisting of a pivoted loop adapted to swing up over the handle when in latching position and means for holding said loop in engagement with the handle, said last means consisting of a padlock secured to said handle.
12. A door fastener consisting of a sheet metal clasp having a fiat end, provided with an opening anda cran'k'latch handle carried thereby and rotatably mounted in the opening, a fixed plate having an opening through which the latch projects, a U-shaped loop both ends of which are pivoted to the fixed plate and adapted to be swung over said handle to hold the same against moven'ient, said handle having an opening to secure a padlock thereto, whereby said loop is 'held in engagement with the handle.
13. A door fastener embracing a crank handle and a latch and a lock securable to said handle whereby the latch is held in operative position, a loop adapted to swing over said handle, said lock being adapted to hold the loop in engagement with thehandle. and a fixed plate with which the latch is engageable, said loop being hinged to said plate.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
