Description

Patented Got. 20, 1925.
UNlTELl.)
QFFlQE.
GABRIELLE M. P. YER-KES. 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
BRASSIRE.
To all whom t mc/z/ concern.'
Be it. known that l. Gnnrnnnn M. P. Ynniins, a citizen oi: the United States, and resident oi' the borough of Brooklyn, in the city and State ot New Yorlr. have invented a new and useful improvement in Bras sires. ot which. the t'ollowing is a specification.
ln brassires as commonly made, the diaphragm ot' the wearer is practically unsupported and the diaphragm is thus allowed to undulyv protrude. Bones have been placed .invarious positions in the brassire in the attempt to correct this fault.
The object of my invention is to provide very comfortable and well fitting garment which will properly and effectively support the diaphragm o1" the wearer, without the use of bones in the garment tor this purpose.
My invention consists of a brassire provided with a boneless diaphragm support and more particularly a brassire having its front provided with a plurality ot boneloss non-elastic diaphragm supporting members, which members preferably overlap; reinforcing straps being` provided for assisting in holding the diaphragm supportd ing portion ot the brassire in proper position.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying draw ings7 in which- Fig. l represents the brassire in front eleration as in use.
Fig. 2 represents the brassire in side elevation as in use.
Fig. 8 represents an enlarged diagrammatic section taken vertically through the front ot the` brassire in the plane of the line Hl-Hl ot Fig. l, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. A represents a detail enlarged diagrammatic section taken in the plane of the line lV-IV of Fig. 2, looking in the direction ot the arrows.
Fig. 5 represents an outside View of the brassire laid out at.
Fig. 6 represents an inside view of the same.
The brassire is shown as made up of nonelastic members, the middle front member` being denoted by l, the two side front members by 2, 3, the two side back members by 4. 5,; the two elastic sores by 6, 7, and the two middle bacl: members by 8. 9. Any suitable fastening` means such as hooks and eyes l() and 11 may be employed for uniting the two middle back members. The brassire is also provided with suitable shoulder 'straps 12, 13.
The front ot the brassire is provided with a boneless non-elastic diaphragm supporta which support in the present instance comprises the two overlapping members la. 15. which extend across the lower portion of the middle iront member l from side to side thereof, forming three thicknesses of material at the overlapping portions. The upper edges of these members may be inclined upwardly from the sides of the member l to a median line.
The two side iront members 2, 3 are provided with reintorcing boneless non-elastic straps 16, 17 and 18., 19. which extend from the upper corners of the supporting members laterally and upwardly across the side front members tor assisting in holding the diaphragm supporting` portion ot the brassire in proper position.
From the ab vo description it will be seen that I have provided a brassire in which the diaphragm of the wearer is properly supported without the use of bones for this purpose, thereby makingthe brassire much more comfortable.
It is evident that various changes may be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spiritand scope of my invention; hence. I do not wish to be limited to the particular embodiment herein shown and described, but
l/Vhat I claim is r- 1. A brassire composed of non-elastic middle and side front members, non-elastic side and middle back members, and elastic gores secured between the side and middle back members. the middle front member being provided with a flexible non-elastic diaphragm support free from stays extending across the lower portion thereof.
2. A brassire composed of non-elastic middle and side front membersa non-elastic side and mdde fm members, and elastic tending laterally across the same diagonally goreg between ih@ Sid@ and middle bad; upward 'from the said diaphragm support. members, the middle front member being nlestimouy that olalm the 'foregoing as 10 provided with a nou-elastic diaphragm sup- Y Nlillhfi'- 112V@ bgmd INTI mlm@ NS port extending across the lower polton l @11F 05T l'iy 1923- theleo'f and the side front members being provided with spaced reinforcing straps ex- GABRELL M.
