ocms, 1925. C. R. LADEVEZE SAFETY- RAZOR BLADE HOLDER Filed Sept. 9I 1924 Patented 13, 192.5.
UNITED STATES PATENT oFFlcE.
ACHARLES RAYMOND LADEVEZE, OI' PBQVIDNCE, RHODE ISLAND.
sammaazoa-BLADE Ironman.
Application led September 9,1984. Serial' No. 736,707.
To all whom z't may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES R. LAnEvnzn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new, and useful Improvements in Safety- Razor-Blade'Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention. such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in devices having a handle and means for connecting a safety razor blade thereto, so that it may be used for numerous purposes.
The object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved form of blade holder by means of which the blade may be held in any one of a number of positions, according to the work to be performed, the construction being such that the device may be easily and inexpensively manufactured and sold at small cost.
With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a side elevation artly broken awa showin a safety razor lade held in the lmproved older, in one position.
Figures 2 and 3 are fra mentary elevations showing the blade he d in two other positions.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the irregular line 4--4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view on line 5-5 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is an elevation of the inner side of one of the blade clamping lates and a portion of one half of the han e.
Figure 7 is a fragmentary perspective view showing more clearly the formation at the outer end vof one of the blade clamping plates.
Figure 8 is a side elevation showing' a different form of construction.
Figure 9 is an edge view. of the device shown in Figure 8.
In the form of construction illustrated in Figures 1 to 7, the numeral A1 designates a preferably flat and straight handle whose front end 1s directed laterally at an obtuse angle to its body ortion as indicated at 2, said handle being ormed of two metal strips 3 Whose rear ends are secured together by a rivet or the like 4. The front ends of Vthe I strips 3 constitute a pair of blade clamping plates 5 whose side edges are oblique to the handle 1, while their front ends are referably at right angles to said handle. 'Bhe inner sides of the plates 5 are formed with opposed pairs of longitudinal grooves 6 along their side edges and are also formed with a air'of opposed transverse rooves 7 at their ront' ends. Any` pair o the grooves is adapted to receive the back 8 of a well known form of safety razor blade 9, so that said blade may be held in any of the three positions shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3. Suitable means, such as the screws 10, are provided to move the plates 5 toward each other to tightly clamp the blade in place.
B placing the blade in the position shown 1n ligure l a perfect tool is provided for cutting out picture mats or pulp back board, or for use in leather working, making stencils, etc. When the blade is held in the position shown in Figure 2, an effective device is provided for peeling vegetables and fruit without waste, for whittling wood, for manicuring and for numerous other purposes requiring a sharp blade.
The position of the blade shown in Figure 3 is exceptionally advantageous for scrapin hard paint and the like from glass or meta for removing varnish fi'om wooden surfaces, for scraping paper from walls,l etc.
In the form of construction shown in Figures 8 and 9 the two halves 3 of the handle, and the blade clamping plates 5", are formed by bending a single metall strip upon itself, the construction shown in these figures being otherwise identical with that above described, so that further explanation is unnecessary.
It will be seen from the foregoing that a very simple, inexpensive and desirable article has been provided, and as excellent results are obtainable from the details disclosed they may well be followed however, within the scope of the invention as claimed, minor changes may of course be made.
I claim:
A blade holder comprising a handle having one end directed-laterally at an obtuse an le and beingsplit-longitudinally to provi e t. opposed clamping plates, said plates having substantially arallel side edges arranged at obtuse ang es with the handle, said plates also having end ed arranged substantially at right angles to t e handle, the inner faces of said plates being can be slid longitudinall in and out of any formed with o posed blade receiving pair of grooves, land a justable means for grooves, a pair o such grooves extending drawing said plates together to clamp a l0 alon and substantially parallel to each of blade in place. I the lg'ierein-mentioned edges of said plates, In testimony whereof I have hereunto all of said grooves extending throughout the allxed my signature. entire lengths of such edges whereby,a blade. CHARLES RAYMOND LADEVEZE.
