Description
Patented @et 6, 1925.
ALFRED L. COBB, 0F LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA.
TRUSS PAD.
Application filed November 12, 1923.
To all @07mm it may concer/n Be it known that l, ALFRED L. COBB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Long Beach, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Truss Pad, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has truss construction, and more the pad thereof.
rlhe primary object of the invention is to provide means for securing a pad to its supporting rod in a manner to permit of unrestricted adjustment of the pad so that the user may adjust the pad for a better application of the pad.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a pad which may be secured in its position of adjustment, eliminating any possibility of the pad getting out of adjustment under ordinary conditions.
`With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the cornbination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure l is a rear elevational view disclosing a pad constructed in accordance with the invention as secured to its supporting rod.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3 3 of Figure l.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line a-t of Figure l.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates a supporting rod to which the usual cloth material forming the straps of the truss, is secured.
The pad includes preferably a solid body portion indicated at curved in the usual and well known manner so that the same will properly fit the body of the user.
Secured to the flat or rear surface of the pad body, is a plate indicated at 7 which has curved ends conforming to the curvareference to particularly Serial No. 674,350.
ture of the pad structure, the central por tion of the plate being curved and offset at 8, to accommodate the rod 5, it being understood that the curvature of the offset portion 8 conforms to the curvature of the rod 5 to closely grip the rod 5.
A cut out portion l() is formed in thc pad and accommodates the sleeve 1l fitted over the rod 5, the ends of the sleeve being designed to engage the end walls of the cut out portion 10 to further restrict longitudinal movement of the pad with respect to its supporting rod. Extending through a threaded opening formed in the sleeve l is a set screw 12, adapted to engage the supporting` rod associated therewith to secure the sleeve in vvarious positions of adjustmentto insure against the pad slipping` longitudinally of its supporting rod.
The plate 7 is formed with a central cut out portion 14 providing a clearance for the sleeve, the width of the cut out portion 'lli being greater than the Width of the tubular member to allow of movement of the pad, in a rotary plane with respect to the rod. As shown, the screw l2 is of a length to contact with the plate 7, when the plate moves to adjust itself, thereby restricting movement of the body portion with respect to the rod 5.
l claim:-
A truss pad including a body port-ion, said body portion having a groove extending transversely thereof throughout the width of the body portion, a plate having a central offset. portion overlying the groove, Said longitudinal and rotational movement of the plate having a. central out out portion, a. pad with respect to the supporting rod. Supporting rod adjustably mounted in In Jtestimony that I Claim the OIegOiIlg 10 the groove, a collar mounted on the rod and 21S my OWH, have hGPG'fO LXG/d my Signa- 5 disposed in the out out portion7 and adjust UW@- able means for securing the collar in position7 and said collar adapted to limit the ALFRED L. COBB.
