Be it known that I, l/VIILLLAM DUNCAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles,-in the county of Los Angleles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvementsin Multiple-Face Dolls, of which the following is a specifica tion.

Thisinvention relates to a multiple faced doll.

It is an object; of the invention to provide a doll with a head which consists of a rotatable member upon which are a plurality of faces, preferably more than two.

It isa further object of the invention to provide a doll"lraving'reversible limbs, with a head consisting of arotatable ball upon which are a: plurality of faces, any of which may be exposed.

\Vitlr the foregoing and other objects in view which will be pointed out inthe following detailed description and defined in the appended claims, reference is had to the accompanying drawings for anillustrative embodiment of the invention, wherein Figures 1, 2" and 3, are front elevations of the improved doll, each of said figures showing a different face exposed.

Fig. 4C, is a front elevation of the doll, parts being broken away and showing the cage in which the rotatable member upon which are inscribed the faces is enclosed.

Fig. 5, is a side elevation of the doll as shown in Fig. 4.

Referring to the accompanying drawings wherein similar reference characters designate similar parts, the doll consists of a trunk or body portion to which arms 11 are secured, the arms having balls 12 adapted to be received in sockets 13 in the shoulders of the body portion 10 and retained therein by means of elastic as shown at 14. Legs 15 are secured to the body portion 10 and have balls 16 which are received in sockets 17 and retained therein by elastic cords 18. In this manner it is seen that the aims and legs may be twisted so as to be completely reversed with respect to the body portion and. also that some swinging movement is provided for these members.

Upon the body portion is secured a pair of spaced rings 19 and 20 which rings are each formed of separate pieces of wire and bent into a circle as shown in Fig. 4, the overlapping ends of each piece of wire being bent as at 21 and 22 to form a neck for the doll and their being bent substantially as shown at 23 and 24: to provide portions which anchor the doll: head within the body 10. The opposed ends" of the rings 19 and 20' are bent toward each other and secured together within the body'of the doll substantially as shown at 25. A small piece of sheet metal 26 connects the junctures of the ends of the rings. A second piece of sheet metal 27 is secured to the topof the ring 19 and extends over the ring120' and is secured to the neck portions 21 and 22 thereof.

These rings 19 and 20 co-operate with the piece of sheet metal 27 to form acage in. which is retained a ball 28 upon which is painted a plurality of faces, substantially as shown. An elastic-cord 29 is secured to the piece of sheet metal 27 and extends through the ball. 28 and: has itsopposite end secured to the sheet metal piece 26-.

l Vith reference to F ig; 5 as shown in the drawmg,the diameter of the ring 19 issconsiderably smaller than the diameter of the ball 28' so that; a portion. of the ball which is somewhatsmaller. than a hemisphere is exposed through the ring 19'. In the present embodiment of the invention, the portion of the ball 28 which is exposed through the ring 19 constitutes about a third of the area of the ball, so that three different faces are painted upon the face of the ball and may be exposed through the ring 19 upon rotation of the ball 28 upon the elestic cord 29. As the elastic cord 29 is secured to the portion of sheet metal 27 adjacent the ring 19, it is seen that the portion of the elastic cord 29 which extends through the body of the ball 28, constitutes an axis upon which the ball 28 rotates and which is inclined with respect to the body of the doll. Thus the portion 29 of the cord 29 which is beneath the ball 28, will serve to continually urge the ball into engagement with the ring 19. When it is desired to expose a new face upon the doll, it is merely necessary to push the ball rearwardly and rotate it while in this rearward pushed position. The portion of sheet metal 27 provides a slight clearance between itself and the ball.

A suitable hood H is mounted upon the head and serves to enclose and hide the cage and all of the head except the face which is exposed through the ring 19.

From the above it is seen that a multiple faced doll is provided which consists of a cage secured upon the body of the doll, a rotatable ball within the cage which carries a pluralityof faces. A flexible elastic cord forms an inclined axis upon which the ball rotates within the cage. H

It is readily seen that by making the ring 19 of somewhat smaller diameter,,a smaller portion of the ball 28 would'be exposed therethru thereby increasing the number of faces which may be painted upon the ball 28 and the number of different facial expressions which may be provided upon the doll.

It is to be understood that'various changes in the details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of theinvention as defined by the appended claims.

A multiple face doll comprising a body a cage mounted upon said body, a member having a plurality of faces thereon disposed within said cage, and an inclined elastic element disposed within said cage upon which said member is rotatable, said element being so arranged that said member will be yieldably urged against thetforward side of said cage as and for the purpose described.

A multiple faced doll comprising a body portion, a cage secured to said body portion, said cage comprising a pair of spaced rings, a rotatable member disposed within said cage and means for urging said rotatable member into engagement with one of said rings, said rotatable member having thereon a plurality of faces.

5. A multiple faced, doll comprising a body portion, a cage secured upon said body portion, a rotatable member Within said cage, elastic means secured to said cageand extending through said rotatable member, said elastic means being so arranged as to provide an inclined axis upon which said rotatable member rotates, a plurality of faces inscribed upon said rotatable member and adapted to be exposed consecutively through said cage.

6. A multiple faced doll comprising a body portion having reversible 1imbs, a cage secured upon said body portion, a rotatable member bearing a plurality of faces disposed within said cage, means for urging said 1'0- tatable member intoengagement with elements of said cage, and a hoodsecured about said cage whereby a portion of said rotatable member is exposed.
