1 Claim.

This invention relates tonovelty and improvements in amusement devices, conducive-of pleasure to young and old alike.

An object of this invention is to rotate an amusing figurine in every-changing directions, thereby changing facial and bodily expression commensurate with each value of velocity from, zero to maximum.

Another object of this invention is to provide a decorative figurine having support means associated therewith and means for rotating said support means.

Another purpose of this invention is to provide baffle means having a cord projecting therethrough, for guiding the travel of said :cord.

Another purpose of this invention is to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive novelty device which lends itself well to commercial manu facture and common manufacturing principles.

Ancillary objects and features of novelty, including marketability and simplicity, will become apparent in following the description of the illustrated preferred embodiment of the present invention, depicted in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the preferred form of the invention;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the invention disclosed in Figure 1 and taken substantially on the line 2-2 thereof and in the direction of the arrows; and

Figure 3 is an elevational side view of a second form of the invention, portions being shown in section to illustrate details of construction.

Referring now in detail to the illustrated, preferred embodiment of the present invention, like reference characters are used throughout to indicate similar elements.

The devices illustrating the inventive concept of the present invention have been developed to provide pleasure-conducive means to people from all walks of life. A pliable figurine is utilized in mon function of a bearing. Collars l8 and 2B,

association with this invention. Upon ever-' changing rotational velocity thereof, various expressions will be effected in accordance with certain values of the said ever-changing velocity. It will be noted that this is the case in the first embodiment of the invention.

The second embodiment of the invention illustrates a pair of figurines, exemplifying animals which are suspended on strings. Now, if desired, these strings may be resilient in nature, thereby adding additional life to the said figurines. Also, upon rotation thereof, the lastmentioned figures twist and turn, extend subrespectively, may be supplied for the purpose of limiting the axial travel of the shaft I4 relative to the base Hi and also for retaining the bearing IS in the selected position.

A pliable figurine 24 is supplied at the opposite end of the said shaft l4 and may be fixed thereto by any suitable conventional means. A baflle 26, disclosed as a globe, has an aperture 28 in the side thereof. A string or cord 33* extends through the said bafile and, more particularly, through the aperture 28 and is secured to the said shaft l4. At the opposite end of the said cord 30 there may be supplied a ring or the like for the purpose of preventing the said cord from entering the baffle 25. It is noted from an inspection of Figures 1 and 2 that the said ring 34 is of suflioient size as to prevent its entry through the aperture 28.

Means for limiting the travel of the shaft l4 relative to the baflie 26 is provided. This means is preferably simple collars or the equivalent 36 positioned immediately above and below the said bafiie globe 26.

In operation, the shaft is rotated by simply pulling the cord 30 in a reciprocatory :manner.

The operation of the second form of the invention disclosed in Figure 8 is identical to that mentioned above. Here the base 40 serves the dual purpose of providing a base and also serving the function of the bafiie means discussed above. Of course, a suitable aperture 42 is provided therein for the purpose of receiving a similar string 38 and ring 34, as discussed above. A shaft 44 is provided with a bearing 46 which is journaled in a suitable aperture provided in the combination base and baffle 40. If desired, a detent 43 may be supplied in the partition 50 for the purpose of more enicaciously receiving the pointed portion of the shaft 44 therein. In this embodiment of the invention, a further bearing for securing means 52 may be supplied on the said shaft 44 wherein the string or cord 30 is attached.

A transverse cross member 54 is secured to the opposite extremity of the said shaft 44 and eye members 56 are supplied at the terminal portions thereof. Through these eyes, cords 53 are secured and it will be noted that these cords 58 may be resilient in nature if desired.

Figurines of any suitable configuration may be supplied at the terminal portions of the said cords 7 and shape may be made herein without departing from the spirit of the invention. Accordingly, limitation is sought only in accordance with the scope of the following claim.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

An amusement device comprising a pliable figurine having flexible arms, a shaft, means for securing said figurine to one end of said shaft, means for rotating said shaft including a cord fixed to said shaft intermediate its ends, means for guiding said cord carried by said shaft including a hollow member disposed on said shaft and spaced from said figurine, an opening in said hollow member having said cord passed therethrough, thrust bearings mounted on said shaft on opposite sides of said hollow member to limit the axial movement of said hollow member with respect to said shaft, a base having an aperture and spaced from said hollow members, a partition in said base, the end of said shaft opposite the said end having the figurine thereon being passed through said aperture and disposed on said partition, and a bearing adjacent said partition on said shaft engaging the edge of said aperture in said base for supporting said shaft in a substantially vertical position.
