Lev-lessen a es 9 U EE v ew r- COLLAR-FASFLENING MEANS.
Application filed September 10, .1923. Serial No. {561,928. I
To all whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, LAWRENCE lV. BAIER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collar-Fastening Means, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in collar fastening means and more particw larly to a collar fastener to be used as a substitute for the ordinary form of collar button.
The ordinary form of collar button now in common use has been found to be objectionable in that it is very apt to press on the neck of the wearer and become very uncomfortable.
Hence, it is one of the objects of the present invention to eliminate the above and other objectionable features of the ordinary collar button by providing a collar fastening means which will be comfortable to the wearer by distributing the pressure over a larger area.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described which will hold the neck band of a shirt and a collar in a correct position and prevent them from tilting.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described in which the stud portion can be formed with a comparatively small head thereby facilitating the entrance of the same into the button holes in a shirt, especially when the button holes have been starched, and preventing the same from being torn.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described which is of very simple construction, is inexpensive to manufacture, is strong and durable, and is well adapted for the purpose described.
Vith the above and other objects in view,-
the invention consists of the improved collar fastening means and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claim, and all equivalents thereof.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing in which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views;
Figl is a v ew of as r showing he improved collar fa thereon;
Fig. 2 is a front view of the improved collar fastening means;
Fig. 3 is a plan view thereof;
Fig. 4; is a side view thereof; and
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing it will be seen that the numeral. 8 indicates the collar fastener proper, the same being formed of a metallic strip corresponding in width to the width of a collar band of a shirt and curved as shown. The outer or convex surface of the member 8 has formed thereon a pair of downwardly depending clasps or hook portions 9 spaced equidistant from the extremities of the member and comparatively close to the extremities. Said clasps afford means for attaching the member to a collar band 10 of a shirt 11, as shown in Fig. 1. Th end portions 12 of the member 8 are curved outwardly opposite to the general curvature of the member 8 to prevent said end portions from pressing against the neck of the wearer and being uncomfortable. Projecting outwardly from the mid-portion of the outer surface of the member is a stud portion 13. Said stud portion is L-shaped with a comparatively small head, or knob 14.
In use, the improved collar fastening means is interposed between the inner surface of the neck band of a shirt and the neck of the wearer. The curvature of the member permits it to partially surround the wearers neck and also to correspond to the shape of the collar band. As was mentioned, the hook portions overlap the collar band and assist in securing the member to the collar band and also serve the added function of preventing the member from tilting when in use. The stud portion is readily insertible through the front button holes of the shirt and also receives the collar to at tach it to the shirt. It will be readily apparent that the device facilitates the attachment of a collar because of the unusual smallness of the stud portion and the nontiltability of the device permits the use of said small stud portion. Also, the discom fort of the usual form of collar button is eliminated for the reason that the pressure is distributed over the entire area of the device. There are no projecting portions 011 the n e sur a e to ause the usual sore stening means u ed spot accompanying the use of the ordinary collar button. It will also be seen that the device is of very simple and novel construction, and is well adapted for the purpose described.
What I claim as my invention is:
A collar fastener, comprising a metallic arc-shaped band adapted to be positioned between the neck band of a shirt and the neck of the wearer, a rigidly attached, small headed, L-shaped stud for engagement with the registering button holes of a collar band and also with a collar, projecting forwardly from the mid-portion of the convex surface of said metallic band, and downwardly de pending flange portions positioned between said stud and the extremities of the band to engage and receive the upper portions of a collar band and hold said collar fastener thereto in a rigid, non-tiltable position, the '20 extremities of the metallic band being curved outwardly.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature.
LAWRENCE W. BAIER.
