IMPROVEMENT IN BOUQUET-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,4 l5, dated September :29, 1874; application led May 16, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, JOHN BOYD, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bouquet- Holder, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a front view of my improved bouquetholder; and Fig. 2, a vertical transverse section of the same on the line c c, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will rst be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing, A represents a hollow socket or casing, of conical, polygonal, oblong, curved, or any other suitable shape, open at the top, and tapering toward the closed bottom part. It is made of any suitable material, from the plainest to the most elaborately-nished style, and intended to hold either natural or artificial iowers, and be used as a brooch for small button-hole and other bouquets, or for larger ball bouquets, or as a bonnet or hair ornament for arranging artificial flowers therein. The hinged lid B is acted upon by a small band or other spring, C, applied rmly to the socket, forcing the same into closed position against the top iange a of the socket. Lid B is also provided with a small button or knob, b, by which the lid may be readily opened in downward position for the insertion of owers.
The pressure of the lid on the stein of the 'bouquet retains the same firmly in the socket or holder. while it admits of the instant removal and replacing by releasing the lid.
The cavity ofthe holder A may be employed, if desired, for taking up a small quantity of water, by which the flowers may be kept fresh for a longer period of time.
The bouquet-holder forms an elegant and very convenient device for various ornamental purposes, and serves for the floral embellishment of ladies7 and gentlemens dress.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new manufacture, a bouquet-holder consisting of tube A, cover B, and spring O, relatively arranged substantially as shown and described.
