HERBERT O. CRIPPEN., JR., F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR ONE-THIRD T0 HER- BERT 0. CRIIPPEN, SR., AND ONE-THIRD T0 CHAR-LES HERMANOVICH, BOTH CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
GARTER PURSE.
Application filed November 24, 1924. Serial No. 751,781.
To all whom` #may concer/nr:
Be it known that I, HERBERT O. CRIPPEN, Jr., a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago,` in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Garter Purse; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the l0 accompanying drawings, and tothe numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in purses or receptacles for attachment to garters.
One of the objects of the invention is to improve purses of thischaracter.
A more specific object is to provide a purse having two pockets, one arranged to contain cigarettes and the other a substantially concealed pocket to contain currency vor the like.
Another object is to provide an improved cigarette holder to be inserted in the front pocket or the purse and means to raise the cigarettes therefrom to render them accessible and to maintain them in upright position when the receptacle is partly filled with cigarettes.
Other objects, advantages and benefits will readily appear to persons skilled in the art from a consideration of the following description, when taken in conjunction with the drawings, wherein:
35., Figure 1 is an elevation of the improved purse shown attached to a garter.
Figure 2 is an elevation of the purse as it will appear when worn by the user of the purse. Y
- Figure 3 is an elevation similar to Figure 1 showing the flaps open and the cigarettes exposed.
Figure 4 is a section taken on line IV-IV of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a section taken on line V-V of Figure 1.
In all the views the same reference characters are 'Used to indicate similar parts.
'This purse is designed to be worn by women and especially by women who have contracted the habit of smoking cigarettes.
In the embodiment shown 10 is a garter or elastic band to encircle the limb ofthe wearer and usually used for the purpose of supporting the stocking.
The purse '11 contains two pockets, the outer pocket 12 andan inner pocket 13. The outer pocket is lto contain the curved cigarette holder 14; which is insertable therein and which is open at its upper end. Slidably movable in the holder 14 is a cigarette spacing structure- 15 consisting of a relatively rigid crimped material, such as celluloid, having a bottom or foot portion 16` upon which the cigarettes 17 rest. The holder 14 is curved to substantially correspond to the curve ofthe limb upon which the device is worn. Attached to the Vupper part of the spacing structure 15 is a ribbon 18. lVhen the ribbon is seized and pulled upon, the spacing device 15 will be raised and the cigarettes will then become more accessible. The spacing device will prevent the cigarettes from vfalling'over when the holder contains less than the full number, and thereby the cigarettes will always be maintained in upright positions.
The pocket 13 is normally closed by the garter 10, as the garter is located between the two pockets. This renders the pocket 13 obscure and its presence will escape notice if it were not known to Vbe there, and therefore it serves as a very safe depository for currency. Both of the pockets are covered with a iap 19 which has a snap fastening member 20 for engagement with the fastening member'21 on the body portion 22 of the pocket structure. The iap 19 when in place is located inside of the garter and between the garter and the stocking. The rear wall 23 of the purse structure is provided with snap members 24: for attachment to the garter 10 which carries co-operating snap members. The device is therefore .supported from the garter by two fastening gmeans, the aforesaid ,snap fasteners just vLJ v nientioned, and `the iap which extends around the garter.
The purse structure and garter may be ornainented or they inay be of plain design to suit the fancy of the user. The elasticity of the Vgarter substantially closes the inner pocket 13. Y
Having described this invention, what 1 claim as new is:
A garter purse having two pockets, one
behind the other, the front Wall ofthe rear pocket having a garter attached thereto, and Y a flap adapted to elose both pockets carried by the rear Wall of the rear pocket, the parte being so proportioned and arranged that the presence of the rear pocket is concealed troni view/'when the front po-eket is open.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name.
