UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.A
. LAFAYETTE M. JOHNSON, OF FOREST CITY, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-CHECKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,158, dated September 22, 1874; application filed August 10, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAFAYETTE M. JOHN- soN, of Forest Oity, county of. Holt and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Stops, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an adjustable slide and spring-plate, in combination with a slide and curved arm, and devices for attachment to the casing in the construction of a door-check, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a front view of my entire doorstop. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the frame or casing, and Fig. 3 shows the various parts detached.
A represents a plate of any suitable dimensions, to be fastened in a perpendicular position to the inner side of a door. This plate is e cast with side pieces B B, forming a frame or casing, in which the door-stop moves. C represents the curved or spur-shaped arm, which has the wheel D pivoted in its lower forked end, said wheel being made of rubber or other suitable material. The upper end of the curved arm C is attached to or formed with a slide, E, which is grooved on both edges, and moves over guide-pins a, a on the inside of the frame A B. The slide E is, by a rod, b, connected with a head-block, G, which is also placed over guides el d in the frame A B, and adjustable up and down on the same. To the front of this head-block is attached a springplate, H, at the lower end of which is a knob, I. On the under side of the spring-plate H, at the lower end, is attached a pin or rod, i, which projects on both sides ofthe plate, and enters notches a: a: in the edges of the sides B B, and holds the head-block at any desired height. .Around the rod b, between the slide E and head-block G, is placed a spiral spring,
h, which holds the wheel down 011 the floor,
and allows it to yield to any inequalities there- 1n.
The tension of this' spring may be regulated by means of a nut on the upper end of the rod b.
The frame or casing A B being fastened to the door, the curved arm O, with the wheel or roller D, is easily adjusted to the floor by means of the slide G and spring-plate H, and held by the pin i and notches x. By raising the slide so that said pin will enter the top notches in the frame, the wheel will be raised entirely from the floor, andact simply as a buffer.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The adjustable slide G and spring-plate H, in combination with the slide E, curved arm O, Wheel I), rod b, and spring h, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I hereunto affix my signature this 23d day July, 1874.
LAFAYETTE M. JOHNSON.
