CUFF LINK.

Application led April 7, 1925. Serial No. 21,337.

To all whom z'z may concern Be it known that I, NrLLIAM DUPUIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Polson, in the county of Lake and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Cuff Links, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a cuff link, and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a new, original and novel article of the class referred to, having an elastic element tending to normally maintain the buttons of the link in close opposed relation when they are connected to the cuff and to provide for convenient passage of the hand through the cuff or the expeditious removal of the cuff over the hand when the link is attached to the cuff.

Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a cuff link, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable compact, thoroughly efficient and convenient in its use, readily assembled, and inexperisive to manufacture. l

Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 and 2 denote a pair of buttons which can be of any shape or design desired, and securedV to the inner face of each button is a diametrically disposed yoke 3 of the desired width.

The yoke 3 is extended from the inner face of the button and is adapted to have hinged or pivoted therewith one end of an elastic element to be presently referred to.

The elastic element is referred to generally by the reference character 5 and is constructed from a spring metal strap 5, having each end terminal portion thereof en-l larged, as at 6, and formed with a pair of spaced bendable projections 7, which are bent around the yoke 3, as illustrated in Figure 5 so as to provide in connection with .the yoke 3 a hinge or pivot. connection between one end of the element 5 and a button.

The metallic strip from which the elastic element 5 is formed is bent in W shape but with the inner arms 8, 9 of the element 5 of greater length than the outer arms 10, 11. The upper ends of the arms 8 and 9 merge into each other. The lower end of the arm 8 merges into the lower end ofthe arm 10, and the lower end of the arm 9 merges into the lower end of the arm 11. The extensions are formed on the upper ends of the arms 10 and 11.

ln providing the elastic element 5 of W shape, and with the arms set up in the manner as referred to, the element 5 normally tends to maintain the but-tons 1 and2 in close opposed relation, and further provides for the extending of the element to shift the buttons 1 and 2 away from each other when pressure is applied to the culi 12 when passing the hand through the cuff, under such conditions the link can be attached to the cuif before the same is positioned on the wrist of the wearer, as element 5 permits of the positioning and removal of the cuff eX- peditiously when occasion requires.

It is thought that the many advantages of a cuff link, in accordance with this invention, can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, yet it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction can be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What I claim is 1. A cull link comprising a pair of buttons, and a W kshaped elastic element arranged between andfhaving each end pivotally connected to one of said buttons, the inner arms of said element opposing each other throughout, of greater length than the outer arms thereof and each merging into one end of an outer arm, the said ends of the outer arms opposin 0' each other.

2. A cuff link comprising a pair of buttons each having its inner face provided with a yoke, an elastic element arranged between said buttons, said element 'formed from a folded flat strip of spring metal and having each end thereof provided with a pair of spaced extensions bent around a yoke to pivotally connect the end with a button.

8. A cuffl link comprising a pair of b'ut tons each having its inner face provided with a yoke, an elastic element arranged between said buttons, said element formed from a folded flat strip of spring metal and having each end thereof provided with a pair of spaced extensions bent around a yoke to pivotally connect the end with a button, said element being W shaped in contour, having its inner arms opposing each other throughout and of greater length than the end arms thereof.
