S. SLIFKA PORTABLE MOI STENER Filed May 12 1924 411106114414 1 5291/52: fikfil Patented Aug. 25, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STEVEN SLIFKA, 0F MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
PORTABLE MOISTENER.
Application filed May 12, 1924. Serial No. 712,709.
To (M2 to ham it may concern Be it known that I, STEVEN SLIFKA, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Moistenersj and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to a portable moistener.
Objects of this invention are to provide a portable moistener which may be readily attached to the clothing of the user in a simple and effective manner, which is of inconspicuous appearance, which is compact, and which may be kept in a sanitary condition in a simple and easy manner.
Further objects are to provide a portable moistener which is at all times available, which is adapted to be so positioned that it is wit-hin easy reach of the operators fingers at all times, and which is of simple and cheap construction.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the moistener.
Figure 2 is a plan View of the structure shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view of the moistener shown in one of the positions which it is adapted to occupy.
The moistener comprises a body portion 8 and cap 9 which are detachably joined in any suitable manner and enclose a sponge 10. A looped spring clip provided with an outwardly extending curved U-shaped arm 11 is secured to the side of the body portion 8, as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2.
If desired, the ends of the spring arm 11 or of the pin 7 may be soldered or otherwise secured to the body portion, or such body portion may be provided with outwardly projecting lugs adapted to receive such members.
In using the device the moistener is shown as secured to the lapel 12 of the operators coat and preferably the spring tongue or grip 11 is slipped through the button hole of the lapel and thus securely holds the moistener in position.
This device is specially useful for those required to handle tickets, paper money, or other articles, who do not have a desk to work at but are constantly on their feet, and have not the usual conveniences of a desk worker.
It will be seen, therefore, that a moistener has been provided which is portable, which may be readily attached to the operato-rs clothing at any desired point, which is of simple, substantial construction, and which may be easily kept in a sanitary condition, as it may be separated into its com ponent parts for cleaning.
Although the invention has been described in considerable detail, it is to be understood that the invention may be variously embodied and is, therefore, to be limited only as claimed.
I claim:
A portable moistener comprising a body portion consisting of a cylindrical part, a sponge carried therein, a cover having a depending flange screwed on said cylindrical part and having a. central upwardly projecting apertured portion conforming to said sponge and allowing said sponge to project outwardly through the aperture, a U-shaped attaching member having its arms bent inwardly and attached to said body portion, said U-shaped member being adapted for positioning within the button hole of a lapel.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of lVisconsin.
STEVEN SLIFKA.
