Description

A TTORNEY5 Patented Aug. 25, .1925.
UNITED STATES I taint AGNES IVI. HAWLEY, OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK.
JEVVELED CANDLE.
Application filed November 19, 1924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Acnns M. HAwLnY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Jeweled Candle, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to candles such as are used in churches, sanctuaries, social functions, and has for its object a candle embodying in its construction solid light refleeting members, as jewels, stones, cut glass or other members, which reflect the light or give a prismatic effect.
The invention consists in the novel features and. in the combinations and construetions hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In describing this invention reference is had to the accompanying drawing in which like characters designate corresponding parts in the view.
The drawing is an elevation partly in sec tion of a candle embodying my invention.
Heretofore candles have been ornamented by molding or applying molded designs to the candle, inserting pictures under the transparent surface or skin of the candle and by decalcomania, and by painting by hand.
My candle is an entirely new article and comprises a solid ornamental jewel member as a jewel, stone, cut glass, etc, set into the body of the candle with its outer side exposed on the surface of the candle, so as to reflect light therefrom. Said member may be transparent or translucent and of different colors, and preferably has facets on its Serial No. 750,957.
inner and outer sides to reflect and refract light rays or give a prismatic efiect.
l designates a candle. 2 is a member set into the outer face of the candle, this memher being herein called prismatic to distinguish it from the molded ornamental pictures, decalcomania work, etc, heretofore used to decorate candles.
The candle body 1 is formed with a socket 3 in which is usually placed a cement, the member 2 is then set into the socket with its outer face exposed or visible on the surface of the candle. Usually the outer face of the member projects out beyond the periphery of the candle.
A candle constructed as described regardless of the ornamental design or embellishments thereon gives a new and peculiarly pleasing effect due to the jewel or other member set into the candle back-ground.
What I claim is 1. As a new article of manufacture, a candle having a solid jewel member set into a socket with its outer side exposed on the surface of the candle to reflect and refract light rays.
2. As a new article of manufacture a candle formed with a socket in its outer face, and a solid ornamental prismatic jewel member set into the socket with its outer side exposed on the surface of the candle.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name, at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, and in the State of New York, this 15th day of November, 1924-.
AGNES M. HI'XWLEY.
