v DANCING rroi?.
i Appucation. med March 15 1924. seriai, No. 699,49sf y vTo all whom it may 'C0/noem.' v
Be it known that I, CARLV HERMAN SoHLoTH, acitizen of theUnited States of America, and resident of Manchester, in the county of Hillsborough and State `of ANew Hampshire, United States of'America, have invented certain new and usefulvlmprovements in Dancing Toys, of whichl the following is a specification.
This .invention Whas .relation to certain new and useful improvements inl a) dancing toy and hasfor itsprimary object the provision cfa toy: of this character which is fof simplel and inexpensive constructionv and may be operated to cause the-dancing iigure to dance in time witha' :musicalcomposition. A
Another object'of the invention resides lthe provisiony of a dancing toyv of, the .character statedincluding amanuallyy vibrated platform andy av dancing ligure having its feet normally-resting on the manually'l vibrated vplatform insuch a lmanner as to comto dance as the manually The inventionhas for a ,further object the provision of the dancing toy ofthecharac- 'ter stated Ain which the manually V'.vibrated platform ismountedf rigidly atjitsreduced -end while 4an operating projectionis formed on its enlarged end vor lmain ip ort1onover `which the dancingffigure iis supported. v.
ITlieinvention hashforav still further'object the provision of the dancing ytoyof 'the vcharacter l.stated in which the manually vvibratedjplatform Ais'mounted; in the casing opposite the'open portion in the casing top andthe door is provided for supporting the platform in its' normal position 'and' preventing saggingnthereof when the toy is not-in With the foregoing and` other objects in view, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of co-operating elements, as hereinafter more specifically set forth, claimed rand shown in the accompanying drawings forming a part of the present application, in which:
Fig. 1, is a plan of the improved dancing toy.
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section, substantially on the plane of line 2 2 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrows.
ing figure, removed.
Referring vmore in detail to the drawings in which*y similar. reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, it will be noted that the dancingftoy includesl a manually vibrated platform 5 which is shown as being substantially the shape cfa leaf with areduced neck or stem y6 extendinglfromthe' main por- `Fig.` 3, isa Vdetail elevation ofthe danctionand connecting` therewith `the flared end `7, ywhich may be termed the stationary Gnd 7 oftheplatform. This stationary end 7 lof the, platform 5` is mounted rigidly on lthe spaced supporting blocks Bcarried. on
thebasefplate 9,nea r one end ofthe latter.
.The neck portion 6 andthe main portion of the platform y5 are thereby lsupported over the' base plate 9, as shown clearly in the drawings. Itis also to be notedfrom Figs.
land 2, thatthe. finger or thumb extension .35;
10 is-provvidedon the edge of the main portion ofthe platform 5, at a point diametri- Mcally opposite the neck 6 and project-ing past the end ,of the base plate-.9.` hecasing 11 is .provided on the base plate 9, with the open- .corresponding with themain portion yof the platform, 5 the neck `6 .andthe extensionw,
vided in one end plate 15V of the casing 11k, to permit free vertical movement of the eX- ten S0n '10 .of the ,platform 5, projecting .through-said end wall-` 15, when itis desired kto operate the toy. v5r-hinged door j16is .mounted on the end wall 15 atthebottom vof the opening .14 thereof and adapted to .engage theun'der face .of the platform eX- tension 10 and supportA therplatform 5v in normal position, when the door 16 is closed, as shown by full lines in Fig. 2, thus preventing sagging of the platform 5, when the toy is not in operation. The bevelled latch member 17 is carried onthe under face of the extension 10, so as to automatically latclr or lock the door 16 in closed position. After lifting the extension 10 to release the door 16, however, the latter may be readily swung upon its hinge to open position, shown by dott-ed lines in Fig. 2, by means of the door knob 18. This will permit free and unobstructed operation of the platform 5.
The dancing figure is represented as including the body 19 and head 20 carried on sides ofthe supporting rod 21.
the upper end of the supporting rod 21, which extends through the central opening 22 in the main portion of the platform 5 and has its lower end threaded in a socket 23 which in turn is threaded or otherwise secured in the base plate 9, as shown .in'Fig 2. The dancing figure also includes arms 24 carried on opposite ends of the pivot rodl 25 extending through shoulder portions of the body 19. rlhe legs of the dancing figure include upper leg members 26 which are pivoted at their upper ends to the body 19 lby apivot rod 27 extending therethrough, while the lower ends of the upper leg members 26 are connected, by suitable pivots 28 to the upper ends of the respective lower leg members 29. The fiat feet 30 of the per leg members 26 and the bifurcated portions 34: of the feet 30.
' It is believed the complete construction and operation of the dancing toy may now be apparent from the foregoing paragraphs taken in connection with the accompanying drawings without further detail description. 'It may be briefly stated, however, that when the door 16 is swung downwardly to open position the toy may be readily operated yby engaging the thumb-or finger with the extension 10 and pressing downwardly or upwardly on the same to vibrate the platform 5, thus causing movement of the feet V3() of the dancing figure over the platform 5, the leg members 26 and 29 as well as the feet 30 operating freely on their pivots 27, 28 and 31. The dancing movements of the figure may be infinitely varied, by causing vibration of the platform 5 in timefwith a musical composition being played on any musical instrument orl otherwise rendered, thus producing considerable amusement and entertainment. All of the parts of the toy are of simple construction and the platform 5 is mounted in such a manner as to be thoroughly protected at all times. The dancing figure may be readily mounted in proper position or removed and placed in the lcasing 11, as desired.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention hasv been disclosed, it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of (2o-operating elements may be `resorted to within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the'spirit of the invention.
What I claim as new is:
l. A dancing toy including a platform adapted to be! vibrated; a base plate; means for mounting said platform above said base plate with one end of said platform rigidly mounted thereon; a casing mounted on said base plate and having an opening through which the platform may vibrate; a dancing figure mountedabove said platform and including jointed leg members carrying pivoted feet normally resting on said platform; and means for retaining said platform against vibration; at times. Y
2; A dancing toy including a platform adapted to be vibrated; a base plate; means for mounting one end of said platform on said base plate; a casing carried on said base plate and provided with an opening through which the platform may vibrate;rsaid platform including a main portion connected withsaid end of the platform by a reduced neck portion; said platform also including an extension projecting in a different direction from said neck portion and through the .end of said casing; a dancing figure mounted .above said main portion of the platform and including jointed leg members with: the .feet V-pivoted thereto and normally resting on said main portion of the platform; and
.means for engagement with said extension of the platform to prevent vibration of said platform and also retain said platform against sagging when the toy is not in use.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature. Y
CARL HERMAN SCHLOTH.
