IMPROVEMENT [N VEHICLE-SPRINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 154,803, dated September 8, 18747; application tiled f July 22, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that we, ISAAC NrconEMUs, of Henry county, SAMUEL vBUEKIN, ot' Rush county, and HAVILAH ADAMSON, of Fulton county and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Equalizers; and we do hereby declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it,- reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this speciication.
Our inventionv relates to an improvement in spring-equalizers, and is intended as animprovement upon the patent granted to David Barb and Elijah' Neff', April 28, 1874, No.
` 150,124, and it consists in thearran gement and vertical rod, g, which has its opposite end pivoted to the horizontal curifed levers i, the inner end of each of these levers being slotted and connected together by means of a suitable bolt or other fastening, so that when one is moved the motion will be instantly communicated to the other. Whenever there is the slightest inequality ot' pressure or weight upon the bed, the sagging or tilting upon that side, causing an unequal strain upon the spring, is at oncen transmitted through the vertical and horizontal rod and lever upon that side to the rod and lever upon the other side, whereby the pressure is at once equalized upon the spring.
We are aware that a device similar to this has been applied to wagons where four springs are used, and this We disclaim. i
By the arrangement ot' devices here shown we dispense with several parts which are absolutely' necessary there, and are enabled to apply these devices to vehicles -in which only two springs are used.
Having thus described our invention, we claim- The combination of the single elliptical spring c, bar d, vertical rods g, and horizontal levers i, having slotted ends, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that We claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 7th day of July, 1874.
