FAGER4 STROM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gering, in the county of Scotts Bluff and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Supporting Devices, of which the following is a specification.

My inventionrelates to a device for en-' gagement witha collarbutton, and a' necktie, such as a four-in-hand necktie, for properly retaining the necktie inthe elevated position, against downward sagging movement. v

An important object of the invention is to provide a device of the-above mentioned character, which may be securely locked to the-front collar button, in a manner to render its accidental displacement impossible, and to engage with the band of a four-inhand neck-tie, preferably within the collar, for retaining the four-in-hand neck-tiein the upper position, after it has been properly tied, whereby the appearance of the same will be neat and attractive.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device ofthe above mentioned character which is of simple construction,

cheap to manufacture, strong and durable.

The body portion 10 carries downwardly extending legs 11, having a latch 12, preferably formed integral therewith. This latch embodies a relatively statlonary curved tubular part 13, provided with an opening 14:, near its bottom, through which the shank of the collar button is adapted to pass. This opening is closed by a sliding curved bolt 15, to operate within the curved tube 13 and moved by means of a lug 17, secured thereto. and operating in a slot in the tube 13. spring 18 may also be mounted in the tube 13, to urge the bolt 15 to the closed position- While I prefer to employ this formof latch, as it isreliable in operation and will securely attach the body portion to the collar button, and permit of slight turning movement, yet the invention is not necessarily restricted to this precise form of latch.

The body portion 10 is forked at its upper end, which is effected by providing upwardly diverging arms '19, preferably formed integral therewith. The body 10 is also equipped with the head20, as shown. This head is preferably provided with prongs 20, adapted to be embedded within the material of the knot. The arms 19 are provided with pointed elements or pins 21, somewhat resembling fingers. In the use of the device, the four-in-hand tie may first be tied in the usual manner, for reducing the knot .9. The bolt 15 is retracted and the ring latch securely placed upon the shank of the collar button, and the bolt, 15 moved to the closed position. The supporting devicemay then be swung or moved upwardly, so that the arms 19 will extend upon the opposite sides beyond the knot 9, and the points or pins21 will engage or penetrate the material of the band 8, upon opposite sides of the knot. The knot 9 will also be supported by thehead 20,, by means of the prongs 20, preferably formed thereon. I have found that satisfactory results may be obtained by omitting the prongs 20, as the arms 19 with their points or prongs are ordinarily sufficient to retain the tie elevated, although I believe that beneficial results can also be obtained by using the prongs 20, in addition.

It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts, may be re sorted to, without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. A device for supporting a tie against downward sagging movement, comprising a relatively long body portion, locking means carried by the lower end of the body portion and adapted to completely encircle the shank of the collar button, and a pair of upwardly diverging arms carried by the body portion and extending upwardly beyond the body portion for a substantial dis tance, said arms diverging upwardly throughout Substantially their entire length and having their upper ends spaced for the maximum distance, said upper ends having prongs, said upper ends being adapted to extend into the collar and engage with the band of the tie at points outwardly of the knot of the tie.

2. A device for supporting a tie against downward movement, comprising a relatively long body portion, locking means carried by the lower end of the body portion for receiving the shank of the collar button for positively holding said body portion upon the shank against upward and downward displacement, and a pair of upwardly ascending spaced arms carried by the body portion andprojecting above the body portion for a substantial distance and provided with prongs arranged to engage with the band of the tie within the collar.

3. A device for supporting a tie against downward movement, comprising a body portion, a device carried by the body portion and adapted to be positively looked upon the shank of the collar button, a pair of upwardly extending spaced arms carried by the body portion to extend into the collar and having prongs to engage with the band or F1 the tie, and a head carried by the body portion between the arms and having prongs to engage with the material of the knot of the tie V 4. A device for supporting a tie against downward movement, comprising a body portion, an enclosing circular locking devlce for completely surrounding the shank of a collar button and capable of having turning movement thereon without separation therefrom, and tie engaging means carried by the upper portion of the body portion.
