Description

Sept. 13, 1938. H. o. DRAPER 7 NECKTIE ATTACHMENT Filed Feb. 1, 1938 2 Sheets-Sheet i Inventor Attorneys Sept. 13, 1938. O DRAPER' I 2,129,657
NECKTIE ATTACHMENT Filed Feb; 1. 1938 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 A iiorneys Inventor Patented Sept. 13, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in attachments for neckties of the four-in-hand type and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an article of this character of a novel construction which is adapted to take the place of the usual knot which is formed in the tie.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide an attachment of the character described, comprising novel means for securing said attachment in position on the necktie.
Still another very important object of the invention is to provide a necktie attachment of the aforementioned character embodying means for holding the wings of a collar down.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a necktie attachment of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become ap parent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a perspective view, showing the device partially open.
Figures 4, 5 and 6 are views in front elevation, showing the steps taken in preparing the necktie to receive the attachment.
Figure '7 is a view in front elevation, showing the attachment after it has been mounted on the necktie.
Figure 8 is a View in front elevation, showing the invention in its final position, as when being worn.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a substantially conical or tapered tube of suitable material which is designated generally by the reference numeral I. The tube i may be made in various sizes and, as shown to advantage in Fig. 1 of the 50 drawings, the upper and lower ends thereof are oppositely bevelled or inclined.
The tube I includes complemental front and back members 2 and 3, respectively, of substantially semi-circular shape which are hingedly connected at one side, as at 4. A suitable catch 5 is provided for releasably securing the members 2 and 3 in closed position.
Projecting inwardly and downwardly from the upper end of the member 2 is an integral supporting tongue 6. Mounted on the member 3 and projecting therefrom is a pair of collar wing retaining fingers 1.
When the device is to be used, the necktie is 5 placed in the collar 8 in the usual manner and the wide end 9 of said necktie is crossed over the small end l0 thereof (see Fig. 4). The wide end of the tie is then wrapped inwardly, upwardly and then brought over the small end it (see Fig. 10 5) and then brought downwardly after which what may be referred to as the connection or knot which has thus been formed is adjusted, as seen in Fig. 6 of the drawings. This knot or connection is designated by the reference numeral 15 II. The device is then opened and mountedon the tie, said tie then being compressed or gathered sufiiciently to permit the device to be closed. When this has been done the tongue 6 is engaged. over the knot II for holding the device in posi- 0 tion. With the device in position the fingers l are engaged on the wings l2 of the collar 8 for holding said wings down. It will thus be seen that the necessity of forming the usual tight knot in the tie is eliminated, thus materially prolonging the life of said tie.
It is believed that the many advantages of a necktie attachment constructed in accordance With the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of 30 the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:-
1. A necktie attachment comprising a substantially tapered tube including hingedly connected front and back members adapted to encircle a necktie, a tongue extending angularly from the upper end portion of the front member and en- 40 gageable with the tie for supporting the tube in position thereon, and fingers projecting from the back member and engageable with the wings of a collar for retaining said wings in position.
2. A necktie attachment comprising a substan- 45 tially tapered tube including hingedly connected complemental front and back members adapted to encircle a necktie, means for releasably securing said members in closed position, a tongue integral with the upper end of the front member and extending inwardly and downwardly therefrom and engageable on the necktie for supporting the tube in position thereon, and fingers pro- J'ecting from the back member and engageable with the wings of a collar for retaining said wings in position.
