Description

J. NATALIE NECKTIE I March 28, 1939.
Filed Jan. 10, 1958 Jar/zed [Va/a ia BY my;
6INVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented Mar. 28, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE NECKTIE James Natalie, Mechanicville, N. Y.
Application January 10, 1938, Serial No. 184,320 1 Claim. (01. 2-448) This invention relates to neckties and has for an object to provide a necktie having a central vertical opening in the upper part thereof closed by a zipper and having a neck band connected at 5 its ends to the upper end of the body portion on opposite sides of the opening so that the neck band may be conveniently slipped in place and the zipper then closed to apply the necktie to a shirt quickly and with the use of only one hand 10 so that persons with one arm may remove and apply the tie.
A further object is to provide a necktie of this character which may be constructed in various styles and of various materials and which when 15 applied will always present a uniform neat appearance in that the zipper is entirely concealed, when the tie is applied. I
A further object is to provide a necktie of this character which may be formed of a few strong 20 simple and durable parts, which will be inexpensive to manufacture and which will not easily get out of order.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of con- 25 struction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of 30 the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a necktie constructed in accordance with the invention and 5 showing the zipper open to permit easy application of a tie to a shirt.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the necktie shown in Figure 1 but showing the zipper closed.
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 showing the construction of the knot portion of the tie.
Referring now to .the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, the tie comprises a body l terminating at the upper end in a permanent knot II, the body portion and knot having a central vertical opening l2 which is closed by a zipper l3 after the tie is applied. A neck band I4 is connected at its end to the knot at opposite sides of the opening [3 therein. The opening in the body portion and knot permits the body portion and knot to be spread laterally at the opening to form a wide V-shaped opening to permit the neck band to be slipped over the head easily and quickly with one hand. The zipper may then be closed to apply the tie to the neck band of the shirt.
The knot H is formed of two similar members l5 and I6, best shown in Figure 3, which, when the opening I3 is closed by the zipper, are moved into knot forming relation.
From the above description it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be fully understood without further explanation.
What is claimed is:
A necktie comprising a body portion terminating at the upper end in a permanent knot, said body portion and knob having a central vertical opening, a neck band connected at the ends to the knot at opposite sides of said opening, the opening in the body portion and in the knot permitting the body portion and knot to be spread laterally at the opening to form a wide V-shaped opening to permit the neck tie to be applied over the wearers head, and a zipper connected to the edges of said opening and closing the opening after the tie has been applied.
