IMPROVEMENT IN THE MANUFACTURE 0F BOOTSl AND SHOES.

To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHELE DEEosA, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Manufacture of Boots and Shoes, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a side view of my improved shoe shown on the foot; Fig. 2, a detail side view of part of the shoe.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to produce an improved boot or shoe for summer wear, which is light, pleasant, and cool on the foot, facilitating the passing of air to the foot, and allowing, also, by its elasticity and pliability, a free play of the same.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing, A represents the uppers of a boot or shoe. The same is formed of 'straw or analogous vegetable material, braided or plaited so as to assume the shape of the human foot and ankle or leg. The same is attached to a leather inner and outer sole, so as to form a durable connection.
The advantages of a boot or shoe thus constructed are lightness, coolness, cheapness, and ease for the feet, in all of which qualities the leather boot or shoe is notably deiicient.
I am aware slippers have been formed entire of braided straw; and
I therefore restrict my claim t0- The combination, with a leather sole, of an upper cut out of braided or plaited straw, as and for the purpose described.
