To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I,-MoRRrs SCHIFF, a citizen of Russia, and residing at Bronx, in the countyV of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain newr and useful Improvements in Adjustable-Size Caps, of which the following is a specification, such as will" "enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to caps and particularly to caps prolvided with means for `adjusting the size thereof to provide the proper fitting of the cap to the head of the wearer, and the object of the invention is to provide an improved cap ofthe class speciiied which is so constructed as to pro-vide a finished and unobstructed lining for the cap when in its' fully .extended position, means being provided whereby in the reduction of the size 'of' the cap thelining and body portion 'of the .cap telescope or fold inwardly into the space between the-lining` and facing of the cap and provide a neat. and iinished appearance to the complete cap' when in extended and contracted position, and with these andv other objects in view the invention consists in a cap of the classand for thel purpose specified which is simple in construction, .efficient in use and which isv conhereinafter described and claimed. j
'The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a perspective side view of a cap made according to my invention and show- Aing the same in a fully contracted position;

The lining 22 ofk the cap is continuous` as is the custom in the construction of caipslin common use', in'. other words no pockets, slits or the like are' formed therein' as: isf. the
common practice in adjustable caps of the* class under consideration that arev now in use.y The lining' 22 is stitched to the vfront band portion 'of the' cap at the'` sides thereof as shown at 23 in Fig. 4 of the drawingrby a vertical line of stitching, which also passes through the facing material 15 which is extended to forinthe band 13; at the front of the cap but between the points 23. and extending backwardiy around the cap the lining 22 is free from the band 13 and the material 15 of the crown 12 to form a space or chamber 24. It will be understood that the lower edge of the lining 22 is secured to the band 13 and material 15 of the crown as shown at 25 in' Fig. 3 of the drawing.
With the above described construction when the cap is fully extended as illustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawing, the lining 22'will besmooth and unobstructed, or will conform with the shapey of the cap as extended, and this will also be true of the fac-ing`I material 15 forming part of the band portion 13 yof the cap at the front and front sides thereof as indicated at 26 in Fig. 4 of the drawing, and if it be desired' to fully contract the band of ythe cap to the smallest size or to a smaller size than the fully expanded or largest size, the strap members 18 and 19 are separated and the' side portions of the the peak 14 and in front part of the band 13 in juxtaposition to the peak 12 are forced inwardly1 in which operation the projecting members of the reinforcing band 21 extend into the chamber 24 at the opposite sides of the cap, and the lining 22 and facing 15, at 26, telescope or fold into the chamber 24 as indicated at 27 in Fig. 2 of the drawing. When the desired adjustment has been made the strap members may be recoupled together and the cap is now ready for use.
The distinctive feature of my invention resides in the method of constructing the opposite side portions of the cap rearwardly of the band portion 13 thereof, and especially in the provision of a conthe opposite sides of the cap,
A stood that while I have tinuous unobstructed or otherwise fashioned lining forming a neat and finished inner appearance to the interior of the cap as well `as the formation of a neat and finished appearance to the exterior of the cap at the points 16 and 17. It will be also noted that the inward telescoping or folding of the facing material 15 extends into one side -of the pleats 11 which are purposely positioned at see Figs. 1 and 4, thus making the fold at 27 invisible from the exterior of the cap. It will be undershown certain de tails of construction for carrying my invention into effect that I am not necessarily limited to these details, and various changes therein and modifications thereof may be made, within the scope of 'the appended claims, my invention'or sacrificing its advantages. Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by `Letters Patent, `is:-
1.i5inadjustable size capv of the class described comprising a crown portion, a band portion and a peak, said crown portion being composed of facing material and a circumferentially continuous lining therefor, said lining extending onto the band portion of the cap and constructed to form a chamber in the band portion of the cap between said lining yandV the facing material of the cap, said lining and facing material being secured together` at opposite front side portions of the cap and the band portion of the cap at apredctermined distance rearwardly of the coupling of the lining with the facing being free from the body portion of the cap and extending to form strap members.
2. An adjustable size cap of the class described comprising a crown portion, a band portion and a peak, said crown portion being composed of facing material and a circumferentially continuouslining therefor, said lining extending onto the band portion of the cap and constructed to form a chamber in the band portion of the cap between said lining and the facing material of the cap,

An adjustable size cap of the class described comprising a crown portion, portion and a composed of ferentially continuous lining therefor, said lining extending onto the band portion of the cap and constructed to form a chamber in the band portion of the cap between said lining and the facing material of the cap, said lining andy facing material being secured together at opposite front side portions of the cap and the bandportion of the cap at a predetermined distance rearwardly of the coupling of the lining with the facing being free from` the bodjT portion of the 4cap and extending to form strap members, said peak, said crown portion being lining and facing material being adapted to telescope into said chamber at the opposite sides of `the capwhere the strap members and semi-rigid `members forming extensions to the front band portion of the cap and adapted to extend into said chamber.

An adjustable size cap of the class described composed of a facing and lining, said facing and lining being continuous cir cuinferentially at the head opening portion of the cap, the band portion of the cap being constructed on opposite sides thereof in such manner as to provide for thetelescoping of the facing and lining materialinto a chamber formed between said rlining and facing.
5. An adjustable size capvof the class described composed of a facing andV lining, said facing and lining being continuous circumferentially at the headopening portion of the cap, the band portion of the cap being constructed on` opposite sides thereof in such manner as to provide for the telescoping of the facing and lining material into a chamber formed between said lining and facing, and strap members for retaining the band of the cap in predetermined positions of adjustment.

An adjustable size cap of the class de scribed composed of a facing and lining, said facing and lining being continuous circumferentially at the head opening portion of the cap, the band portion of the cap being constructed on opposite sides thereof in such manner as to provideV for the telescoping of the facing and lining material into a chamber formed vbetween said lining and facing, strap members for retainingthe band of a band facing material and a circumthe cap in predetermined positions of adjustment, and semi-rigid members at the opposite sides of the cap to facilitate the telescoping of the facing and lining.

In a cap of the class described having facing and lining materials continuous circumferentially at the head opening portion of the cap, chambers formed between said lining and facing at the opposite sides of the cap, and tongue members at the opposite sides of the cap whereby said lining and facing materials are adapted to be telescoped into said chambers in the size adjustmentJ of the cap.
8. In a cap of the class described having facing and lining materials, continuous circumferentially at the head opening portion of the cap, chambers formed between said lining and facing' at the opposite sides of the cap7 tongue members at the opposite sides of the cap whereby said lining and facing materials are adapted to be telescoped into said chambers in the size adjustment of the cap, and means for retaining the cap in predetermined positions of adjustment.
