w. MORRIS BRUSH Filed Jan. 26. 1925 tltrozm e Patented July 28, 1925.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM MORRIS, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
BRUSH.
Application filed January 26, 1925. Serial No. 4,889.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILLIAM Monnrs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Brush, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to brushes, and aims to provide a brush of the fountain type especially designed for cleaning printers type or the like.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a brush of this character wherein a predetermined quantity of cleaning fluid may be directed to the bristles of the brush, eliminating any possibility of flooding the type or wasting the cleaning fluid.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a removable brush section, the bristles of the brush section being arranged in a novel manner to insure them becoming thoroughly saturated with the cleaning fluid.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made with in the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a brush constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevational view.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through the brush.
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail sectional view illustrating the connection between the container and delivering tube.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device includes a hollow body portion 5 that includes an upper wall 6 and a lower wall 7 Secured to the lower wall of the body por tion are depending flanges 8 that have inwardly extended portions 9 that provide a support for the bristle supporting plate 10 which may be slid into the space between the members 9 and bottom wall 7.
The hollow body portion 5 is so constructed that it provides a reservoir which may be filled through the filling opening 11 that is closed by the screw cap 12. Disposed substantially centrally of the body portion and communicating with the space between theplate 10 and bottom wall 7 of the body portion is a tube 13 that extends to a pointslightly above the upper surface of the body portion or wall 6 to accommodate the eX- tension 14 forming a part of the container 15 which is relatively small as compared with the reservoir, the size of the container 15 being however suflicient to contain a quantity of liquid necessary for the cleaning of type.
An opening 16 is provided in the tube 13 which opening is adapted to register with the opening 17 formed in the tube 14, which registering openings establish communication between the container 15 and reservoir. The bristles of the brush which are indicated at 18 are formed in lengths and are passed through suitable openings formed in the plate 10 in such a way that portions of the bristles will lie within the space between plate 10 and the wall 7 of the brush, so that the bristles may become thoroughly saturated with the cleaning fluid that is directed thereto.
In the use of the device, the brush is positioned in the hand of the user and is inverted with the result that fluid from the reservoir passes into the container 15, through the registering openings 16 and 17.
When the desired quantity of fluid has passed into the container, the brush is then positioned on the type to be cleaned with the bristles engaging the type. It follows that the brush is now moved over the type in a manner to clean them.
I claim A brush of the class described comprising a hollow body portion, a tube extending through the body portion and having a lateral opening; a container including a tube having a lateral opening, said last mentioned tube being positioned in the first mentioned tube, said container adapted to be moved to bring the openings in alignment to permit fluid to pass into the tubes, and bristles carried by the brush to receive fluid from the container. p
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM MORRIS.
