OAsE G.
To all 'whom it may concern Be it known that 1,1),Avrs H. My invention has relation to certain improvements on the subject of my patent of 1 April 14, 1874; and has for its object to so modify the. construction of the devices therein shown as to adapt the lock to a suspended door rolling upon an upper rail, and, consequently, not requiring a combined'lock and carriage.
My present invention, accordingly, consists, irst, in the combination, with a notched guard,7 embracing the outer lower edge of a sliding door, of a lock, locking into said guard, and having a face-plate extension or hook depending and embracing said guard; secondly, in the construction of a freight-car door-guard with a bead for the engagement of the lockhook.
Referring to' the accompanying drawing, A

D represents the guard fastened to the sill of the car, and E the lock attached to the door A. D shows a horizontal rib or bead on the guard, and d d notches in the upper'edge of the same. The hook e on the lock engages with the rib D on the guard, or it may be extended to embrace the lower edge thereof. A pivoted spring-latch within the lock E enters the notches cl and d. When it enters the former the door is completely-closed, but when it enters the latter the door is locked in a partially open position for the purpose of ventilation.
1. The combination, with a notched freightcar guard, embracing the lower outer edge of a sliding door, of a lock, locking into said guard, and having a depending hook embracing the latter, substantially as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
2. The guard D, having a bead, D', for the engagement of the lock-hook, substantially as and for the purpose shown and described.
