IMPROVEMENT IN HYDRANT'COVERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,4QS, dated August 25, 1874; application led 'July 25, 1874.
To all whom it may concerti:
Beit known that I, JAMES MGKNIGHT, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hydrant-Cover, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and cheap means ofastening hydrantcovers, whereby they may be more readily connected and disconnected than they cau be as at present arranged, and at the same time which is fitted in a centralbearing projecting from the under side of the cover, and having a socket, G, in the upper end, in which the upper end of the spindle terminates, so that' it can only be turned by a wrench, H, which will fit in the socket. The cam will be held in position for keeping the catches in the notches by friction; but a fastening device may be employed for the purpose, if required. Lugs may be used on the walls of thel hydrant for the catches, instead of the notches, if preferred.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patenty The combination of the spring-catches A, cam D, and a spindle, F, with the hydrant U and its ooverB, the hydrant having the notches E for the catches, and the spindle being arranged in a soeketed bearing to be turned by a wrench, H, all substantially as specified.
