Description

c. M. DANZER PROCESS FOR APPLYING BOTTLE CAP REMOVERS Original Filed Feb., 21, 1923 Patented June 23, 19256 CHARLES 1vr. DANZER, or HAeEnsrowN,
MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR OI ONE-HALF TO CHARLES E. RUPP, or naenns'rown, MARYLAND.
ZPROCESS FOR APPLYING BOTTLE-CAP REMOVERS.
Original application filed. February 21,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES M. DANZER, av citizen of the United States, residing at Hagerstown, in the county of Vashington and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Process for Applying Bottle-Cap Removers;
and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates 'to a process for applying bottle cap removers.
Among the objects of my invention are To provide a process for applying cap removers to bottles which comprehends the filling of the bottles, the insertion. of the caps in the necks of the bottles and the application of the remover to the cap after the latter has been placed; in position in the bottle.
This and further objects of my invention will be set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the means by which said objects are effectuated will be definitely pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 shows a milk bottle with the milk being poured therein;
Fig. 2 shows the same bottle, the filling having been completed and the cap about to be placed in the neck thereof;
Fig. 3 shows the same bottle with the cap inserted in the neck thereof and the cap remover about to be applied to the cap;
Fig. 4: is an enlarged view of a cap and a remover with its entering ends in contact with said cap;
Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4 excepting that the remover has been secured in the cap; and
Fig. 6 is an enlarged view of the remover before insertion in the cap.
This application is divided from my copending application Serial No. 620,431, filed February 21, 1923.
In the drawings 10 represents a bottle, in this instance a milk bottle, which is provided with a neck having the ordinary groove 11 for the recep- 1923, Serial No. 620,431. Divided and this application filed May 2, 1923. Serial No. 636,145.
tion of the cap 12. This bottle is to be filled in any ordinary or approved manner as by the spout 13 and after the bottle is filled the cap 12 is to be forced into the groove 11 thereof in any ordinary or approved manner as by the ram 1d and after saidcap is in place, then the remover 15 is to be applied to the cap in any approved manner as by the thumb 16 and forefinger 17 In applying my improved remover to the cap 12, it is pressed against the cap as shown in Fig. 1 and the ends 1S-1S of said remover forced through the cap 12 until the apexes of the angle between the ends 18-18 and the body 19 reach the underside of the cap as shown in Fig. 5, the legs forming the body portion 19 being then in substantially parallel relation.
It is to be noted that the extremities of the ends 18 are beveled as at 2121 in order to insure that said ends will take the proper path through the cap 12,
It is t us to be noted that my improved remover comprises a body portion 19 which may be formed bowed as shown in Fig. 6 or the body portion 19 may be formed straight or in any other shape, but however formed, the ends 18 are bent at an angle thereto and the extremities of said ends are at any suitable distance apart. The extremities of the ends 18 may be beveled as shown in Fig. 6 or may be cut square across as desired, or said extremities may be otherwise formed in order to determine the path of said ends through the cap 12.
My improved remover may be made and furnished ready to be inserted in the bottle or it may be made from wire by a machine that also inserts the remover in the cap.
Thus it will be seen that my improved remover and process for applying same are different from those which "have been proposed heretofore, inasmuch as my remover is always in proper location for the application of the fingers or a removing tool thereto, and that it is applied to the. bottle cap after the same has been inserted in a filled bottle.
YVhile I have shown one form of my remover, it is to be understood that I have shown this for purposes of illustration only and in nowise to limit the scope of the invention, for many changes may he made in the remover and the process of applying same without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim The herein described process of applying a remover having securing ends which are oppositely and angularly disposed to a cap, which. consists in pressing said ends 10 through one side of said: cap to operatively engage the opposite side thereof.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature.
