To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Ronnnr L. i/VILsoN, a citizen of the United States,;residing at Chi-' cago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cork-Extractors, of 'which the following is a specification, referwithout dama ing the latter.

A further- 0 ject of the invention resides in providing a device having a prong or blade adapted to be inserted between the stopper and the inner periphery of the neck of the bottle, which blade may be used for the purpose of loosening the stopper in the bottle and at the same time for removingthe same, and a still further object resides in providing a device with clamping means for attachment to the neck of the bottle.

Still another object of-the invention resides in providing an improved blade having means therein whereby air may enter between said blade and the inner periphery of the neck of the bottle so as to permit said blade to be readily turned in the neck of the bottle to loosen and remove the stopper therein.

A still further object resides in providing a device which is extremely simple in construction, inexpensive tomanufacture, and one which will be very efiicient and useful in operation.

I have provided my improved extractor which comprises a shank or body member 4, to the upper end of which is secured a handle member 5, forming a T head thereon,

6 and 7 being spring-members, will, of course, tend to draw the clamping jaws or members 8 around the neck of the bottle, but in order to clamp the same ti htly therearound, I provide a sleeve or 00 lar portion 9 which flares outwardl from its upper to its lower portion, said s eeve or collar being internally threaded at its upper portion to engage a threaded portion 10 on the shank 4, and it will be seen that as said collar is turned on the shank to move downwardly with respect thereto, the same will force the

Secured to the lower portion of the shank 4, is an elongated prong or blade 11, saidblade being riveted or removably secured to the shank in any desired manner in order to project some distance below said shank, and the outer face of said blade is beveled outwardly from the-longitudinal center of the same to the-outer side edges thereof, as shown at 12. This blade is adapted to be inserted between the cork closure 3 and the inner periphery of the neck of the bottle and then turned therein, at the same time drawing outwardly upon the shank .to loosen and remove the closure, and in order to permit an easy movement of the blade in its effective position, and at the same time permit the action to be effective,

said blade is provided on the outer face of the longitudinal center thereof with a longitudinal groove or channel 13.

In operation, the blade 11 is first inserted between the cork and the inner periphery of the neck and the collar or sleeve 1-) threaded on the threaded portion of the shank to tightly clamp the portions 8 about the neck of the bottle, whereupon the operator turns upon the handle 5, at the same time drawing outwardly thereupon. The air space or groove 13 in the outer face of the blade 11 will permit of the blade being readily turned and drawn outstated, as the device is turned and drawn outwardly, the cork 3 will be drawn there with, and if not totally withdrawn from the neck, it will be appreciated that the device may be removed and said cork totally removed by hand.

From the foregoing, it will be seen that 1 have provided an improved cork extractor i .which extremely simple and durable in construction, ineXpensive to manufacture, and one which will. be very eilicient and useful. in operation. It will further be seen that the device is one which will. not dam-- age the cork, whatsoever, in removing the same, and is one which may be applied to bottles having corks of various sizes. Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim is 1. A stopper extractor, comprising a shank having a threaded portion thereon and provided with a handle member atone end thereof, a blade secured to the shank adjacent the opposite end thereof and depending therefrom, a pair of spring arms also secured to the shank and depending therefrom, said spring arms being provided with clamping members at the free ends thereof, and a collar threaded in engagement with the threaded portion of said shank and adapted to cooperate with said springs and force the clamping members thereon into engagement with the outer periphery of a bottle neck.

A stopper extractor comprising a shank threaded for a portion of its length, spring arms secured to the lower portion of said shank at diametrically opposite points thereon, said arms having portions thereof flared outwardly and provided with clamping members at the free ends thereof, a blade secured to the lower end of the shank and extended therebelow, a collar dis posed in threaded engagement with the threaded portion of the shank and having the lower portion thereof flared outwardly and adapted to contact with the flared portions of the spring arms to cause the clamping members thereon to engage an object, and a handle member carried on the upper portion of said shank.
