M. wozNucK TOY v 7 Filed June 30. 1 924 Patented June 23, 1925.
'UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TOY.
Application filed June 30, 1924. Serial No. 723,378.
T all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, MICHAIL WozNUoma citizen of Poland at present (that part of the country being Russia previously), residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to toys, having more particular reference to a toy including a carriage which when rolled along the floor or ground, imparts movement to one or more parts, the invention having for an object the provision of a novel toy of this type.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which'the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawing is a side elevational view of my improved toy.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary end view.
Fig. 4c is a fragmentary vertical sectional view showing the means for waving a flag.
Referring now to the drawing my improved toy comprises a pole which is se cured at one end to an axle 11 and is adapted to be grasped at its other end by the child playing with the toy, this pole being of suitable length. Rotatably mounted on opposite ends of the axle are the wheels 14 and 15, the former wheel having a smooth rim while the periphery of the latter is notched or recessed as at 16 to form in effect gear teeth ofthe crown type.
Supported upon the pole 10 for free rotary movement, a short distance above the lower end thereof, is a frame which comprises the disks 18 and 19 which are rigidly united by the posts 20 which extend therebetween and which are grouped concentrically around the pole in even spacing from one another. At their lower ends these posts project beyond the bottom disk 19 a short distance and form teeth adapted to engage in the recesses in the wheel whereby the rotary frame has movement imported thereto as the toy is rolled along the floor. The posts are here shown as having pointed lower ends to engage in the recesses 16, the
posts being spaced to engage in alternate ones of the recesses.
In connection with my improved toy I may provide a means whereby a number of flags are caused to be waved as the frame rotates on the pole. To this end certain ones of the posts may be formed with 'borings'such as 22 entered upwardly from the lower'ends thereof for about half their length, and in each borings 1s slidably mounted a rod 23 which is pressed downward by the expansion spring 24: located in the. upper end of the said boring and bearing downward on the upper end of the rod. The rod 23 is formed near its upper end with a transverse aperture 26 in which engages the inner end of a lever arm27 fulcrumed between its ends on a strap 28 encircling the post, and having a flag 29 attached to its outer end. Normally the rods project downward at their lower ends a short distance below the lower ends of the posts and are the wheel thereby permitting this vertical movement of the rods to take place.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows v 1. A toy comprising a pole having an axle fixed to one end thereof, a pair of wheels mounted on said axle, one of said wheels having its periphery toothed, a frame mounted .for rotation on said pole and con sisting of a pair of spaced disks united by posts, the ends of the posts being projected beyond one of said disks to engage the teeth on the said wheel tocause rotary movement to be imparted from the wheel to the said frame. I 1
2. A toy comprising a pole having an axle fixed to one end thereof, a pair of wheels mounted on said axle, one of said wheels having its periphery toothed, a frame mounted for rotation on said pole and consisting of a pair of spaced disks united by posts, the ends of the posts being projected beyond one of said disks to engage the teeth on the said wheel to cause rotary movement to be imparted from the Wheel to the said frame, a number of fla s carried by said frame, and means whereby said flags are caused to wave as the frame rotates.
3. A toy comprising a pole having an axle fixed to one end thereof, a pair of wheels mounted on said axle, one of said wheels having its periphery toothed, a frame mounted. for rotation on said pole and consisting of a pair of spaced disks united by posts, the ends of the posts being projected beyond one of said disks to engage the teeth on the said wheel to cause rotary movement to be imparted from the wheel to the said frame, a number of flags carried by said frame and means whereby said flags are caused to wave as the frame rotates, said means comprising rods adapted to engage and be reciprocated by said wheel.
4. A toy comprising a pole having an axle fixed to one end thereof, a pair of wheels mounted on said axle, one of said wheels having its periphery toothed, a frame mounted for rotation on said pole and consisting ofa pair of spaced disks united by posts, the ends of the posts being projected beyond one of said disks to engage the teeth on the said wheel to cause rotary movement to be imparted from the wheel to the said frame, a number of flags carried by said frame and means whereby said flags are caused to wave as the frame rotates, said means comprising rods adapted to engage and be reciprocated by said wheel, said rods being slidable in borings in said posts.
5. A toy comprising a pole having an axle fixed to one end thereof, a pair of Wheels mounted on said axle, one of said wheels having its periphery toothed, a frame mounted on said pole for rotary movement and comprising a number of posts spaced, concentrically therearound, said posts being adapted to engage said toothed wheel whereby rotary movement is imparted from the latter to the said frame, rods slidable in said posts and projecting downwardly below the latter and adapted to be moved upward when the posts engage the said wheel, levers fulcruined on said posts to be moved by said rods, and flag carried by said levers.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
