Description
Fume 23, 1925.
c. B. BELLAH LAMP BURNER ATTACHMENT Filed Sept. 8. 1924 ZZLZZ'ZZak Patented June 23, 1925 UNITED STATES GLOVER BEE BELLAH, 01 PORT LAVACA, TEXAS.
LAMP-BURNER ATTACHMENT.
Application filed September To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GLovEn B. BELLAH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Port Lavaca, in the county of Calhoun and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Lamp-Burner Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an extinguishing attachment for the burners of oil lamps.
It is well known fact that it becomes quite difficult at times to extinguish the flame of a burning lamp wick and some times these efforts have resulted in the overturning of lamps and consequent damage.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an extinguishing device which can be sold as a complete article and applied readily to lamps already in use after which, by the simple compression of a bulb, a jet of air can be directed against the flame so as to extinguish it.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings Figure 1 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation showing the attachment applied to a lamp burner.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the attachment in position.
Fig. 3 is a detail view of the attachment.
Referring to the figures by characters: of
reference 1 designates a band preferably of 8, 1924. Serial No. 736,605.
light spring metal forming a clip adapted to be applied readily to and to clamp upon the wick tube T of a burner B. One end of the clip 1 is provided with a sleeve 2 in which is seated a tube 3. The upper end of this tube is offset or turned laterally to provide a nozzle 4: and the parts are so proportioned that when the clip is properly placed on a tube T, this nozzle will be supported close to but above one side of the tube T adjacent the edge of the wick. The tube 3 is extended below the sleeve 2 and is insertible through an opening 0 provided therefor in the base of the burner. This tube has a collapsible bulb 5 connected to it and which can be applied after the tube has been. inserted through the opening. In practice it is merely necessary to compress the bulb 5 when it is desired to extinguish the flame. This will project a jet of air along the exposed edge of the wick with the result that the flame will be extinguished quickly and positively.
The attachment which is shown complete in Fig. 3 can be sold as an article for application to burners already in use and will be found a convenient means in extinguishing lamp flames.
What is claimed is An attachment for lamp burners including a clip for engagement with a wick tube, a sleeve upon the clip, an air tube secured within the sleeve and having a terminal. nozzle for directing a jet of air along the exposed edge of a lamp wick and air forcing means connected to the air tube.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of a witness.
GLOVER BEE BELLAH. Witness: I
JOHN H. DIE.
