Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT D. MOILWAINE, OF PETERSBURG, VIRGINIA.
IMPRovEMENT IN co'rToN-BALE TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,267, dated August 18, 1874; application filed July 20, 1874.
ings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to that class of inventions known as bale-ties#7 and consists of certain improvements in construction which will be hereinafter described in the speciiication, and clearly set forth in the claim.
I have improved the method of using the double-headedpintle by a tie formed by looping or returning the contiguous ends of the hoop parallel to each other upon the opposite headed ends of said bolt, thereby bringing their contiguous edges in the center, with their outer edges braced by the inner faces of the bolt-heads, thereby obtaining the greatest possible strength and bearing-surface upon the pintle attheir lapping points.
The accompanying drawings represent an under-side View of my improved bale-tie, in
Witnesses:
which a is a strong pintle, having a head, b, on each end, with the space between the heads equal to double the Width of the lapped band, so that the looping ends c o thereof shall occupy an equal undivided Width and bearing upon the opposite ends of the pintle, and thereby bring their contiguous edges d d in the center, with their outer edges e e against the heads of the pintle.
This arrangement brings the ends of the hoop on opposite ends of the pintle, and thereby makes a strong, simple, and effective tie, as Well as a very cheap method of employing the double-headed pintle as the uniting means.
I claim- The bale-tie formed by looping the ends c c of the hoop upon the opposite ends of the doubleeheaded bolt a, with their contiguous edges d d in the center and their outer edges e e braced by the inner faces ofthe boltheads b b, as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
R. D. MCILWAINE.
