Description
W. F. TROWB-RIDGE.
Receivers inHeeHng-Machines. No.154,160. Patented Au .18,1874.
W fTNESSES:
INVENTOR."
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM F. TROWBRIDGE, OF HUDSON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN RECEIVERS IN HEELlNG-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154, I60, dated August 18, 1874; application filed July 27, 1874.
To all whom. it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. Taow- BRIDGE, of Hudson, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cups for Heeling-Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates 'to improvements in receivers for heels in beefing-machines; and consists in the employment of laterally-adjustable guides in combination with the receiver, for the purpose of adjusting the heel part of a boot or shoe in the receiver, that it shall be located in exact position in relation to the heel that has been previously placed in the lower part of the receiver, and. that is to be attached to the shoe in manner as set forth in the description of what is called the Bigelow heeling-machine. Without such laterally-adjustable guides, in combination with a receiver for the heel to be attached to a boot or shoe, it has been very difficult to locate the shoe in proper relation to the heel in the receiver, and it has frequently occurred that the heel has been attached a little one-sided to the boot or shoe. This difficulty I overcome by the employment of the aforesaid laterallyadjustable guides, by which another advantage is also gained,,namely, that one receiver for heels can be adjusted and used for several sizes of boots and shoes merely by the lateral adjustment of the guides, as will hereafter be more fully shown and described.
On the drawings, Figure 1 represents a ground plan of my invention. Fig. 2 represents a cross-section on the line A B, and
usual manner.
Fig.3 represents a cross-section on the line C 0, shown in Fig. 1.
Similar letters refer to similar ever they occur on the drawings.
a represents an ordinary receiver for heeliug-machines, provided with a recess, 1), for the heel to be placed therein. 0 represents a cylindrical perforation, that serves as a guide for the support of the heel from below, in the On the top of the receiver a. I locate laterally-adjustable guides at e e, in a suitable manner, as shown in the drawings. Each of the said laterally-adjustable guides parts wherare provided with a slot-hole, d e e, and a,
setscrew, d e" e, by which the said guides can be held firmly in place after being adjusted. The inner ends of each of the adjustable guides 01 e c terminate as faces D E E, against which the heel part of the boot or shoe is held during the attachment of the heel thereto. The ad j ustable guides d c 0 may be kept from turning around the set-screws, confining them in place, by the employment of steady-pins or guide-pieces, as usual in similar cases. The face D, as shown, is concave, and the faces E E convex; but this is not important, as they may be made of any conformity, as may be most suitable, without invalidating my invention. I
\Vhat I wish to secure by Letters Patent, and claim, is-
The combination, with aheeling-machine receiver for heels, of the laterally-adjustable guides at e e, as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention, I have aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM F. TROWBRIDGE.
