Description

Patented June 9, 1925i.
PATENT OFFICE; l
Encan-n WAGNER, or WAUwA'rosA, WISCONSIN.
HAND ELECTRIC LAMP.
Application filed December 5, 1923.` Serial No. 678,610.
T all 'whom t may concern.:
Be it known that l, EDUAnn VAGNER, a citizen of Germany, residing at Wauwatosa, in the count-y of Milwaukee and State of lisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand Electric Lamps, of which the following is a specilication. l
This invention relates to attachments for self contained electric hand lamps particularly of the type known as pocket or flash lights, having as one of its objects to provide an attachment to the body of the lamp, presenting a solid level surface for the l support of paper or like material capable of receiving an inscription.
Another purpose is to produce a reflector so associated with the writing surface as tov throw light rays, emanating from the lamp, directly upon the plate supporting the writing sheet, thus enabling a person to utilize the device as required even in the dark.
A further aim is in the provision of a readily removable, effectively lighted writing surface and combine it with means for engaging a writing implement, as a pencil or pen.
These several objects are attained by the novel construction` and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a partial side elevation, partial sectional view of an embodiment of the invention, illustrating its application.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 33 0f Figure 1. i
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the numeral 10 designates generally the body or casing of a conventional type of hand electric lamp, which will be understood to contain batteries constituting a source of electrical energy.
The electrical current is controlled by the switch or its equivalent, in its passage to the incandescent bulb 12 contained in the head 13, over which is disposed a lens 14, these elements being of common and well known 0 character.
The invention consists in providing` a thin but st-- flatplate l5, prfwidecl with a pair of resilient arms 16 attached by hinges 17 in such 4manner that the arms can be folded flat against the plate as shown inFigure 2.
This plate is an elongated rectangle in profile and presents a level smooth upper surface on which can be placed a pad or sheet of paper, acting as a support for the same,
A pencil 18, shown by broken lines, is held to the edge of the plate l5 by a clip 19 as a matter of convenience.
A semi-ovoidal reflector 20 extends from one end of the plate 15 over and above the lamp head 13, said reflector having an opening 2l through which the rays from the lamp l2 are directed, due to the peculiar shape of the reflector, to the surface 15.
It will be obvious that the spring arms 16 may be shaped to engage a cylindrical body as shown or the arms may be suited to embrace a flat or pocket type of lamp case, as at 16.
When not in use, lthe arms may be folded against the underside of the plate, thus en abling the attachment to be readily carried in the pocket, of course dismounted from the lamp body.
Having-thus described my invention and set forth the manner of its construction, application and use, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a portable electric lamp having a bulb at its end, of a 'flat level plate adapted for use as a writing surface, resilient arms on said plate engageable with the body of said lamp, and a reflector adapted to direct a portion of the rays of light from said lamp upon said plate.
l2. The combination with a portable electric lamp having a bulb at one end, of a flat level plate presenting a writing surface, a pair of hinges Xed to the underside of said plate, resilient arms carried by said hinges, said arms being removably engageable with the body of said lamp, and a reflector fixed at the end of said plate adapted to direct light on said plate, said reflector having a rearward directed opening through which the light rays pass to strike said plate.
3. The combination with a portable electric lamp having a bulb at one end, of a plate presenting a writing surface, reSilf ient'aims on said plate, means permitting said arms to fold closely below said plate, a pencil securing means at one of the longitudinal edges of said plate, and a reflector atta'chedwto the*v end` l of Asaid .plate, said-f reflector f having an vopening fin its -rear Wall adjacent the plate and being so shapedasto direct the light rays from Said lamp through the mentioned opening upon the uppeil surface of said plate.
In witness-whereof I have affixed my signature.
