UNITED STATES RALPH SCOGGINS, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
DISPLAY HOLDER.
Application filed December 9, 1926. Serial No. 153,525.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a display holder.
One object of the invention is to provide a holder of the character described, adapted to receive a display card and equipped with means for illuminating said card.
A more specific object of the invention is to provide a convenient holder for a menu card in combination with means for illuminating said card so that the data thereon may be easily read.
With the above and other objects in view this invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, arrangement of parts and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 shows a front elevation of the device.
Figure 2 shows a longitudinal sectional view thereof, taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1, and;
Figure 3 shows a cross sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numeral 1 designates a holder which is preferably substantially rectangular in form, and composed of sheet metal or other suitable material. The sides and bottom end of the holder may be overturned to form retaining flanges 2, 2 and 3 and a menu card, or other data receiving card, as 4;, may be inserted endwise from the top end of the holder into place underneath said retaining flanges. It is obvious that other means may be provided for retaining the card 4 in the holder, or if desired the menu or, other data may be printed, or engraved directly on the holder itself.
The upper end of the holderis provided with a hood like reflector 5 adaptedto reflect the light downwardly onto the card 4 and this reflector has a socket 6 adapted to receive the electric light globe 7.
There is a battery casing'8 fastened, preferably, to one side of the holder 1 and is adapted to receive a battery, as 9'which may be wired with the globe 7 through the wiring 10, in the usual manner. The circuit through the wiring 10 may be completed or broken, in the usual way, through the push button switch 11 carried by the battery casmg 8.
The battery casing, also, forms a convenient grip by means of which the holder may be held.
The device herein described is specially useful about dining rooms and restaurants. for lighting the menu cards, particularly where guests are served in vehicles out of fixed to the margin of said holder and *enclosing said source of energy and forming a g 2 A device of the character described including a holder having a display space thereon, a removable data receiving surface on said space, said holder having marginal flanges forming retaining means for said surface, an electric light carried byvthe holder, a reflector carried by the holder and adapted to reflect the light onto said space, a source of electrical energy electrically connected with said light and consisting of a battery and a battery casing anchored to the holder and enclosing said battery.
3. A device of the character described, in cluding a holder having a display space thereon, a removable data receiving member located on said display space, said holder having marginal flanges for retaining said member in place. an electric light carried by the holder, a reflector carried by the holder and adapted to reflect the light onto said space, a source of electrical energy electrically connected with said light consisting of a battery and a battery casing anchored to holder and enclosing said battery, said casing being formed into a grip by means of which the holder may be held.
4. A device of the character described including a portable holder whose sides and bottom end are overturned to form retaining flanges, a flexible data receiving member adapted to be inserted from the topof the holder into place underneath said flanges, the upper end of the holder being forwardly curved forming a hood-like reflector which means for electrically connecting said battery with said light globe and means for completing and breaking an electrical cir- 10 cuit from the battery through said globe.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
RALPH SCOGGINS.
