Claims.
This invention relates to a signalling device.
An object of the invention is to provide a signalling device of the character described specially designed for the use of customers to indicate that service is required.
The device is specially designed for use in restaurants or about drive-in stands for attracting the attention of a waiter or attendant.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a device of the character described which may be readily furnished to and operated by customers desiring service.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following specification which is illustrated by the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side view, partly in section, of a preferred form of the invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation, partly in section, of another embodiment of the invention; and,
Figure 3 is a vertical, sectional view of another modification.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate the same parts in each of the figures, the numeral I designates an elongated upstanding base, preferably cylindrical in shape and formed of any suitable material.
Within the base there are the batteries 2 which are supported on a coil spring 3 and which are in electrical contact with the light globe 4 which is mounted in the socket 5 at the upper end of the base.
The lower end of the base may be screwed into the socket 6, attached to which there is a flexible vacuum cup I by means of which the device may be securely mounted on a serving tray.
Upstanding from the top of the base, and secured thereto, there is a tubular opaque stem 8 whose upper end is internally threaded to receive the externally threaded neck of translucid globe 9, preferably colored. The light globe 4 may be switched on and off by means of the manually operable switch ill in the usual way.
When service is required the switch may be operated to illuminate the globe 4 and the rays from this globe 4, through the stem 8, will illuminate the signal globe 9.
In the embodiment illustrated in Figure 2 there is a cylindrical base la which is secured, at its lower end, to the angle connection II which is suitably connected to the vacuum cup l2, formed of flexible material, and which may be supported by vertical door glass l3 of a motor vehicle, or other vertical support. This base la contains batteries 2 and is equipped with the switch I0. In this form the light globe 4 is mounted on the socket member 5 as in the form in Figure 1, but in this embodiment the light globe 4 is surrounded by the signalling globe 9 of translucid material, preferably colored. The light globe 4 may be illuminated by operating the switch l0 when service is required.
In the form illustrated in Figure 3 there is a base I 1) adapted to be supported on a horizontal tray, or support, l4 and having an upstanding stem 8a of opaque material screwed into, or otherwise attached thereto and on whose upper end there is a signalling globe 9a of translucid material, preferably colored, screwed, or otherwise detachably secured. In this embodiment of the invention there is a battery case l5 mounted on the support l4 within the base la and containing batteries which are electrically connected with. the light globe 4. This globe may be switched on, and illuminated, or switched off, by means of the conventional switch Ill.
Upon illumination of the light globe 4 of Figure 3 the transmitted rays through the stem 8a will illuminate the signalling globe 9a.
The base lb and the stem 8a of Figure 3 are preferably opaque.
The drawings and description are illustrative merely while the broad principle of the invention will bedefined by the appended claims.
What I claim is:
l. A signalling device comprising, a base, a source of electrical energy in the base and including a light globe, a tubular tapering stem upstanding from the base and a signalling globe formed of translucid material on the upper end of the stem and arranged to be illuminated by the rays from the light globe.
2. A signalling device comprising, a base, a source of electrical energy therein including a light globe, a reduced tubular, opaque stem upstanding from the base and a signalling globe formed of translucid material on the upper end of the stem and arranged to be illuminated by the rays from the light globe.
3. A signalling device comprising, a base, a light globe on the base, a source of electrical energy in the base, a switch for electrically connecting said globe with, and disconnecting it from, said source, a tubular stem of smaller diameter than the base upstanding from the base and tapering upwardly from the base and a sig nalling globe formed of translucid material on the upper end of the stem and arranged to be illuminated by the rays from the light globe.
4. A signalling device comprising, a base, a tubular upwardly tapering stem upstanding from the base, a signalling globe formed of translucid material on the upper end of the stem, a source 1 of light including a light globe supported by the base and manually operable switch means for connectin the light globe with, and disconnecting it from, said source.
5. A signalling device comprising, a base having a socket to receive a light globe, a holder secured to one end of said base, an upwardly tapering opaque stemupstanding from. the other end of said base, a signallingglobe formed of translucid material on the upper end of the stem, a light globe in said socket, a source of energy arranged 4 REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
