2 Claims. (Cl. 240--10.1)
This invention relates to improvements in advertising signs and has particular reference to a rotating pole used to advertise beauty shops and is adapted to perform the same function as a barbers pole that is employed to advertise a barber shop.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a pole that is used in an attractive and ornamental transparent casing, and which pole is ornamented with attractive color combinations in the form of polka dots or the like, and said pole being motor driven to thus rotate in a vertical plane as compared to the conventional barber shop pole that rotates in a vertical axis.
A further object of the invention is to illuminate the pole in order that it will be visible at a considerable distance and to employ an ornamental strip that has words thereon to indicate the nature of the shop.
A further object of the invention is to provide a beauty shop pole that is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, strong, durable, positive in operation, at-
tractive in appearance and highly efiicient and serviceable m use.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings wherein similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Fig. l is a front view of the device constructed in accordance with my invention, view being shown partly in section and partly in elevation,
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the device, with portions of the casings being broken away to more clearly show the means for rotating the pole,
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view through the outer casing, the view being taken on the line 33 of Fig. l and looking in the direction of the arrows, and
Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view through the pole of the invention, the view being taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2 and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 5 indicates a bracket that is secured to a wall 6 or like support for the device of the invention, that comprises a plastic base 7 that is suitably secured to the upper surface of the bracket by fastening elements 8. This plate detachably supports thereon an ornamental drum-shaped clear plastic casing or dome 9. Integrally formed with said dome and depending therefrom is a plastic collar 10 that is provided with a normally open bottom. A pair of lugs 11 extend inwardly from said collar and are adapted to receive screws or the like 12 for securing the collar and the supported dome to said plate 7. This arrangement permits ready access to the interior of the casing when any replacement operation is necessary.
Mounted on the top of the casing and secured to a peripheral flange 13 of said casing, is a vertically extending top plate 14 on which is displayed, on the outer face thereof by ornamental colored letters, the words Beauty Salon to designate the place of business of the user of the sign. Optional letters to designate another place of W a ice business can be employed in the use of my unique sign. A slot 15 is provided in said dome to assure proper ventilation and to compensate for heat generated by the bulb and motor of the invention.
' Centrally positioned on said plate is a plastic block 15' that is apertured as at 16 for receiving therein a tube that is bent as at 17, continues upwardly as at 18, and terminates in a horizontal end portion 19 that is supported in a bracket 21 connected to the rear section of the pole. This tube is stationary and serves as a support for the pole of the invention, and also serves as a means for the conveyance of the supply cord 20 to an incandescent lamp 21' that serves to illuminate the pole when the plug end of the cord is connected to a switch outlet.
The pole of the invention is of a substantially elliptical configuration and consists of a front section 22 and a rear section 23 that are detachably secured together as at 24. The outer surface of the front section 22 is ornamented with enlarged spaced polka dots 25 to thus enhance the appearance of the pole.
It is to be noted that the said pole is made of frosted plastic material to shield the mechanism for rotating the pole, the material of the pole being semi-transparent to permit the light from the bulb to shine through the pole to illuminate the same and also the varied colored polka dots of the pole. The numeral 26 designates the motor of the device that is equipped with a motor shaft 27 provided with a flat strip of material 28 on the outer end of the shaft. This strip is adapted to be received in a slotted lug 29 that is secured to the inner face, medially thereof, of the pole section 22. Since the two sections are connected, one to the other, it will be obvious that the pole will rotate, as a unit, in a vertical plane as the motor shaft 27 is turned by the motor. The said motor being supported by a bracket 30 that is in turn connected to the horizontal end 19 of the tube.
To protect the motor and bracket and to comply with the standard fire regulations, the motor and bracket are housed in a protective sectional shield or covering 31. The lamp 21' is mounted on top of said covering that is suitably apertured to permit the passage therethrough of the tube end 19 and the motor shaft 27. The lead wires 20 are in turn connected to the terminals of a lamp socket 32.
From the foregoing description, considered in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be obvious that I have devised a most distinctive beauty shop pole whereby the objects of the invention can be readily accomplished.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as the preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A device of the character described comprising a base portion, a bracket connected to said. base portion for securing said device to the side of a building and the like, a transparent drum-shaped casing detachably secured to said base portion, an ornamented semi-transparent cylinder supported in said casing, and means connected to said base for suspending said cylinder within said casing, an electric motor supported within said cylinder, and driving means from said motor to said cylinder for rotating the latter, said driving means comprising a motor shaft extending from said motor, a slotted lug fixed to the inner surface of said cylinder, and a strip carried by the end of said shaft and adapted to be received in said slotted lug.
12. device .of the character described comprising a base portion, an ornamented drum-shaped clear plastic casing detachably secured to said base portion, an apertured block secured to the upper surface of the base portion, ,a tube supportedomsaid black andvtermiua ng Q in .a vhorizontal ,end portion, an ornamented vcylinder made of semi-transparent H a ria-I and supported :Qmthe tube end, said tube adaptedto- EGQBVQY lead wires .10 said casing ,and to .a position -within-the S.a,1ne,--a-mQt9I1snpported withinsaid cylinder and connectedto the mhaend 1 portion, a housing for the motor-support and secured to the-"tube end, and a lamp holding socket mounted on said housing tor receiving .tlielead wires from .said tube, the motor being equipped with driving means for rotating said cylinder within said casing.
