Description

March 10, 1970 c. FRANC ELECTRIFIED PACKAGING ORNAMENT Filed March 17, 1967 FIG;
FIG. 4.
C N A P F S E L R A H C United States Patent 3,500,035 ELECTRIFIED PACKAGING ORNAMENT Charles Franc, 1501 1st Ave., New York, N.Y. 10021 Filed Mar. 17, 1967, Ser. No. 623,933 Int. Cl. F21p 1/02; F21v 7/00; A47g 33/16 US. Cl. 240-10 6 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A substantially flat illuminated ornament for a package has a flat support member and a plurality of miniature bulbs detachably secured to the member. An ornamental cover is detachably disposed over the support member and lamps with light transmitting regions over each of the lamps. A battery is mountable through an access hole and is electrically connected to a detachable battery connector which is connected with the lamps. Reflectors behind the lamps reflect their light through the light transmitting regions.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION My ornament is provided with a flat electrically insulated support member. A plurality of miniature low voltage lamps are detachably secured to one surface of the member in spaced apart positions. A battery connector adapted to be detachably secured to a miniature electric battery is disposed on this surface. Electric conductors secured to this surface interconnect the lamps to the connector whereby when the connector is secured to the battery the lamps are lit. Ornamental cover means is detachably securable to the member in such manner that the lamps, connector, conductors and battery are concealed between member and cover means. This means also has a like plurality of transparent or translucent regions, each of which overlies a corresponding lamp. The light from the lamps passing through these regions together with the ornamentation of the cover means itself produces an extremely pleasing and unusual ornamental effect.
My ornament can take the shape of a greeting card or can be detachably securable to a separate package.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective front view of one form of my invention;
FIG. 2 is an exploded view of the parts thereof;
FIG. 3 is a perspective rear view thereof;
FIG. 4 is a view through 44 in FIG. 2;
FIG. 5 is a rear view of a modification thereof;
FIG. 6 is a perspective view of my invention as secured to a package; and
FIG. 7 is an enlarged detail view of a lamp, lamp socket and reflector used in my invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to FIGS. 1-4 and 7 a flat electrically insulated support member 10 (which is shown as an, annular disc but can have any shape) has secured thereto a plurality of flat miniature lamp sockets 12, each of which has a horizontal lamp pin receiving slot 14, and a detachable reflector 16. A like plurality of miniature low voltage lamps 18 are provided, each lamp having a cylindrical pin 22 removably insertable in the corresponding lamp socket. These lamps can be all of the same color or can be of different colors. Member 10 can be secured to one surface of a greeting card 34.
A battery connector 24 adapted for detachable connection to a miniature battery 26 overlies member 10 and is connected in circuit (series connection) with all of the lamps by insulated conductors 1-1. An access hole 28 in the rear of the card permits the battery to be inserted and connected or removed. A detachable ornamental cover 30, which takes the form of a molded varied colored wreath but can have any shape, color or design, is detachably securable to member 10 to incase the lamps, sockets, reflectors, conductors, connector and battery. Cover 30 has a plurality of transparent or translucent regions 32, each of which is in registration with the corresponding lamp and permits the light of the lamp to pass therethrough to enhance the ornamental effect. Card 34 can have a collapsible stand 36 secured to the rear thereof to permit the card to stand almost upright on a suitable surface.
If desired, the entire structure so described other than the card can be separate therefrom and the rear surface of member 10 can he covered with an adhesive coating 40 protected by a removable backing strip 38 as shown in FIG. 5. Once strip 38 is pulled away, the member can be placed coating side down on the surface of a package 42 to decorate same as shown in FIG. 6.
Various other securing means such as a pin or prong can be used in place of the adhesive coating.
While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings my protection is to be limited only by the terms of the claims which follow.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A portable electrically illuminated ornament for a package comprising:
a flat insulated support member for securement to the package,
a plurality of miniature electrical lamps having their longitudinal axes detachably secured and parallel to one surface of said support member in spaced-apart relationship,
ornamental cover means detachably disposed to said support member over said lamps, said cover member including a light transmitting region disposed over each of said lamps,
a detachable battery connector for making electrical contact to a battery, said connector being electrically connected to said lamps,
an access hole through said support member to permit insertion and removal of the battery, and,
lamp reflectors having their longitudinal axes parallel I to said support member and secured adjacent to each of said lamps opposite said light regions so that light reflected off said reflectors is transmitted through said light regions.
2. The ornament as recited in claim 1 wherein the other surface of said support member comprises an adhesive coating to permit connection to a supporting surface.
3. The ornament as recited in claim 1 wherein said ornamental cover means comprises a wreath covering over said lamps.
4. The ornament as recited in claim 3 wherein said lamps comprise;
a plurality of sockets, and
miniature electrical bulbs having cylindrical connecting pins which are removeably inserted in said sockets to permit interchangeability of different colored lamp to be inserted therein.
5. The ornament as recited in claim 1 wherein said light transmitting regions in said cover means are trans parent.
'6. The ornament as recited in claim 1 wherein said light transmitting regions of said cover are translucent.
