ISIDOR SCHNEIDER, on NEW YORK, is. Y.
PORTABLE-CONTAINER HANDLE.
Application filed January 18, 1922. Serial No. 530,075.
1 all whom it may 00mm:
Be it known that I, Ismor. SCHNEIDER, a citizen of Austria, and a resident of the borough and county of Bronx," city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable- Container Handles, of which the following is a specification.
In my concurrent application Serial No. 528,591, filed January 12th, 1922, now Letters Patent No. 1,437,023, issued Nov. 28, 1922, I show and describe means for equipping a portable container with electric lighting means incorporated within the casing thereof and arranged to project light rays extraneously. My resent invention is coordinate therewith, and relates to an alternative method and means for incorporating an electric lighting device with a portabl container by utilizing the handle thereof as an electric lamp and switch mount, in conjunc tion with an electricbattery positioned in the container, substantially in the manner and for the purposes hereinafter fully set forth. i
In the accompanying drawings,
Fig. l, is a sectional elevation of the upper portion of a container provided with a handle in and on which an electric lamp and switch are installed, the electric current being derived from a battery positioned in I the container, and electrical connection being established through the medium of the metallic loops by which the handle is secured to the container;
Fig. 2, is a modification, showing my invention embodied in practical form in connection with a flexible handle of a container, the source of electricity being positioned within the container, as in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3, is an enlarged sectional detail showing the contactual switch means used in the adaptation shown in said Fig. 2;
Fig. 4, is a sectional detail, upon an enlarged scale, illustrating the electrical connection between handle and container;
Fig. 5, is a sectional elevation similar to Fig. 1, showing a modification inthe lamp and switch mount;
Fig. 6, is a partial section like unto Fig. 5, showin the lamp positioned at one eX- tremity o the handle.
In my present invention the essential feature is theinstallation of an electric light lamp 6, and a switch 8, for energizing same in and on the handle H, of a portable container C, in conjunction with an electrical battery (preferably in the, form of a so called dry cell) locatedin the containenas indicated particularly in Figs. 1 and 5 of the drawings, in which figures 11, represents an electric battery of any suitable form and character connected in electrical circuit 6', c, with said lamp 6, and switch 8, through the medium of the metallic handle loops h, 71,, by means of which the handle is secured to said container'C. I
In Figs. 1 and 5, the switch 8, contacts directly with the central pole of the electric lamp 6, to close the light circuit, whereas in Figs. 2 and 6, the switch contacts with another terminal 8, in the handle H, the latter being sufliciently flexible for the purpose.
The electric lamp bulb 6, being situated ex traneously of the handle, a protective cap is, may be provided therefor, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, said cap it, being detachable, so that while isolating the lamp bulb 6, under ordinary conditions of use of the container C, its removal admits of the efi'usion of the light rays from said lamp e, upon occasion as required. 7
It is to be understood that while I herein show and describe several practical embodiments of my improvements in conjunction with a handle for a portable container, I do not limit myself to the'identical form, construction, or arrangement of parts thus disclosed, since various modifications and mechanical eXpedients may be resorted to in minor details with like result, and without departing from the spirit and intent of my invention in this respect, the gist of the invention consisting essentially in the utilization of the flexible handle of the container through the medium of its metallic loops electrically connected with a battery in the container as an electrical flash lamp mount and support, substantially as herein specified.
By my present invention the electric light is made available in'the most direct and expedient manner without any manipulation of the container itself, it being simply necessary te' apply thumb or finger pressure to a prescribed part of the flexible handle in order to effect the illumination desired, andv this is accomplished without impairing the usual functions of the handle as related to the container.
I What I claim as m invention and desire to secure by Letters atent is,
1. In combination With a portable container of the character designated, a flexible B handle connected therewith by metallic loops, an electric flash lamp and circuit switch incorporated with said flexible handle, a battery in the container, and said metallic handle loops electrically connected 10 with said battery and with said handle flash lightand switch, substantially in the manner set forth.
2. In combination With a portable con tainer of the character designated, a flexmemos metallic handle loops electrically connected with said battery and With said handle flash 20 light and switch, together with a detachable cap for said electric lamp, for the purpose and substantially in the manner set forth.
