UNITEDl STATES PATENT OFFCE.`
WILLIAM BOOTS, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR- TO GUYOT BROS., OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
LINK BRACELET.
Application filed .Tune 27, 1924. Serial No. 722,817.
To ZZ 107mm t may conce/"n:
Be it known that I, TVILLIAM Boers, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol, State of lvlassachusetts, have invented new and useful lniprovements in Link Bracelets, of .vhich the following` is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in link bracelets and the primary object thereof is to provide a bracelet which has novel and improved means for enabling the links thereof to be easily and quickly connected and disconnected.
The invention further aims to provide connecting means for the links which is of a simple and economical construction and which more specifically causes the connecting means to remain exposed upon removal of the adjacent link so as to facilitate reconnection thereof.
The invention has still further and other objects which will be later set forth and manifested in the course of the following description.
In the drawings Figure l, is a fragmentary side elevation of a bracelet constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2, is a section on line 2 2 of Figure l;
Figure 3, is a section on line3-3 of Figure 2;
Figure Al, is a section on line Ll--l of Figure l, and
Figure 5 is a section on line 5 5 of Figure l.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention the boxes l are provided with the usual backs 2 the latter being preferably `integrally connected at their ends 3 to the boxes, while the side edges la of the boxes are rolled over into engagement with the backs.
The slides embody substantially U-shaped spring members 5, the free ends 6 of which are turned outwardly and are received in openings 7 nrovided therefor in the sides of the boxes 1.
Plates S lare secured to the U-members 5 by striking out lingers 9 and 10 from the rear end of the plate and effecting` clamping engagement of the fingers with the opposite sides of the base or closed ends of the members 5. Coil springs llare engaged between the backs 2 and the plates 8 and at their ends `are engaged with the inner ends l2 of the backs 2 and the closed or base ends of the U-members 5. The plates 8, it will be noted, upon expansion of the bracelet links will extend over or across the spaces between adjacent links, thus concealing` the sides of the U-members 5.
Inprder to disconnect the links it is merely necessary to relatively expand same and then press one or both of the spring side arms of the U-members 5 inwardly whereupon the ends 6 thereof are disengaged from the openings 7 of the adjacent link. When thus disconnected, the free ends of the side arms of the members 5 and consequently the ends 6 thereof project outwardly of the box thereof and are freeely exposed.
To connect the parts, one end 6 of member 5 is first inserted in opening 7 of the adjacent link, and the opposite arm of the member 5 is then depressed and the end 6 of the latter arm then moved into the companion opening 7 of the said adjacent link.
Having thusv described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is :e
1. In a link bracelet, links including boxes having openings in the sides thereof, U- shapedmembers in the boxes having their free ends turned outwardly and received in the openings of adjacent boxes, plates seated on the members and having fingers struck-out therefrom and engaged with opposite sides of the closed or base ends of the U-members, and coil springs between the plates and the backs of the boxes and engaged at their ends with the bases of the U-members and an end of the boxes, the
free ends of the U-Inembers being exposed and projecting outwardly from an end of the box thereof upon disconnection from the box of an adjacent link.
2. In a link bracelet,` links including boxes having openings in the sides thereof, U- shaped members in the boxes having their ends turned outwardly and received in the openings of adjacent boxes, plates connected to the U-members, and springs for tensioning the members, the free ends of the U- members being exposed and projecting outwardly from an end of the box thereof upon lislonnection from the box of an adjacent resilienty and relatively eompressible parts on each vslide insertible in an end of the adjacent link and formed to project ont Wardly through openings provided therefor in the sides of' said adjacent link.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
