Description

Feb. 17, .1925. 1,526,675
C. A. MEALY BRACELET Filed June 20, 1924 Patented Feb. 17, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFF ICE.
CHARLES A. MEALY, 0F PROVIDENCE, RHODE COMPANY, OF PROVIDENCE,
ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE HADLEY RHODE ISLAND.
BRACELET.
Application filed June 20, 1924. Serial No. 721,367.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, a citizen of the Providence, in the county CHARLES A. MEALY, United States, residing at of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented new and useful Improvement which the following is a This invention relates t useful improvements in s in Bracelets, of
specification. 0 certain new and bracelets and relates more particularly to bracelets of the expansible type.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a bracelet which to be easily and connected and which has enables the links qu ckly connected and disnovel means for connecting and tensioning the links.
e invention further aims to provide means for enabling connection and disconnection of the links, economical construction.
The invention has still which is of simple and further and other ob ects which will be later set forth and manifested in the course description.
In the drawin s Figure 1 is a of the following agmentary plan View with the back of the links applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a section on line 22 of F igure 1.
Figures 3, 4 and 5 are sections on lines 33, H and 55 respectively of Figure 2.
In proceeding in present inventlon each 4. The or L-shaped 1i opposite end slotted at 6 substantially L-shape and and has its The slide is of has a pair of ears extendin outwardly from its sides at one end thereo while its opposite or right angular end 9 8 extending substantially right an les right angular end 9 0% has a similar pair of outwardly from its si the slide guide ears es and at to the ears 7. The provides an abutment for one end of the spring 4, while the back 2 has an inwardly extending end 10 that provides an abutment for the opposite end of the spring. The slide has a pin-hole 11, between its ends set forth.
- In assembly,
as shown in the drawings, onv the slide in abutting on end 9 of the slide. and th plied with its end 10 in for a purpose now to be are Sade is placed in the box the spring placed gagement with the e back is then ap abutting engagement with the opposite end of the spring whereupon the sides of the box are bent over the sides of the back at 1 to hold the latter in position. The cars 7 project outwardly from an end of the completed or assembled structure and are formed for engagement with the L-shaped lips 5 whereby the adjacent links are connected and still permitted relative hinged or pivotal movement so as to provide a flexible link structure. The cars 8 guide the slide and hold same against lateral movements. The spring acts'on the end 9 of the slide and thus holds the lips 5 and ears 7 engaged. In order to disconnect the parts the slide is pulled outwardly and a pin P inserted through the pin hole 11 so as to hold the slide in extended position by reason of the pin being engaged with the adjacent end of the box or housing as shown in Figure 2.
The parts are now moved to an angle of approximately 45 degrees to release the ears 7 from the lips 5, whereupon the parts may jacent to lips 5. To connect the parts, the slide is extended and held by the pin whereupon the ears 7 are engaged with the lips 5 at a 45 degree angle followed by movement of the parts to normal position.
e'invention is susceptible to all uses which ornamental-or other chains of this type are adapted for,.including wrist watch bracelets, necklaces, wrist circlets, etc.
Having thus described my invention, what claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In an 'expansible link bracelet, links including a box, a substantially L-shaped slide in the box having a pair of ears at each end thereof extending outwardly from its sides, L-shaped lips at one end of the box for engagement with the cars at the outer end of the adjacent slide, said slide having a pin-hole between its ends, a coil spring on the slide engaged at one end with the right spring.
2. In an expansible link bracelet, links including a box, a substantially L-shaped slide in the box having a pair of ears at one end thereof, L-shaped lips in the box for engagement with the ears of an adjacent slide,
- to receive a pin thereby said slide having a pin-hole between its ends, and a coil spring on the slide engaged at one end with the right angular end of the slide and at its other end with the adjacent end of the box.
3. In an expansible link bracelet, links including a box, a spring tensioned shde in the box having a part extending through an end of the box, connecting means on said part, and means carried by the box for removable engagement witli the connecting means of an adjacent slide, said part of the slide having a pin-receiving hole which upon outward movement of the slide is ex osed to hold the shde in outward position.
4. In an expansible link bracelet, links including a box, a spring tensioned slide in the box having a part extending through an end of the box, ears on the end of said part of the slide engageable with the adjacent end of an adjacent box, and hook-shaped lips carried by the other end of the box for engagement with the adjacent ears of an adjacent slide, said other end of the box having an opening to permit the ears of the slide to be moved therethrough in connecting and disconnecting the slide from an adjacent box. v
5. In an expansible link bracelet, links including a box, a spring tensioned slide in the box having a part extending through an end of the box, connecting means on said part, and means carried by the box for re-,
movable engagement with the connecting means of an adjacent slide, said part of the slide having means. which upon outward movement of the slide is exposed whereby to permit the slide to be held in its said outward position.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
