C. R. TOST WRIST WATCH STRAP Filed Jill 15, 1925 Patented Mar. 16, 1926.
UNITED 5 CHARLES R. 'ros'r,
TATES OF GENTERDALE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR' TOTHEFH ADLEY COMPANY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
wnrs r-wntron s'rnar.
Application filed July 15, 1925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES R. Tos'r, a citizen of the United States, of Centerdale, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wrist-VVatch Straps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in wrist watch straps and the primary object thereof is to provide a strap which can be lengthened so as to permit of removal from the wrist without disconnecting the ends of the strap from the watch.
A further object of the invention is to provide means of simple and economical construction, which can be easily and quickly manipulated and which can be likewise applied to and removed from the strap.
In the drawings Figure 1 isan edge elevation of the invention;
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof;
Figure 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2, but showing the parts in extended position; and
Figure 4 is, a section on line Fig. 1.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention a sectional strap is employed, the sections being designated 1 and 2 and provided with inner loops 3 and 4, the loops being formed by virtue of the sec tions being each folded upon themselves and stitched together. The section 1 is further formed with an elongated loop 7 in which is slidably mounted a slide 8 which holds the strap sections in their overlapped relation. The slide 8 is of generally C-shape so that its ends may be sprung into and out of the loop 7, thereby permitting easy and quick assembly and like removal thereof.
A generally U-shaped link or connector 9 is employed and which spacedly connects the sections. The closed-end of the connector or link engages in the loop of section 3,'while the free ends 10 of the link are inturned and are sprung into the loop 4 of section 2, thereby permitting easy and quick assembly and like removal of the link.
In operation, the inner ends of the sections 1 and 2 are overlapped as shown in Figures 1 and 2 and the slide 8 is slid to engage over the inner end of section 2 and with the sides of link 9, which sides form Serial No. 43,795.
a frictional engagement with the slide. To. remove the strap from the wrist, the slide 8 is slid outof engagement with the link 9 and out of engagement with the section 2, whereupon the sections may be relatively moved or spread apart to thus lengthen the strap and permit of removal thereof from the wrist of the wearer. As depicted in Figures 2 and 3 the link may be formed with bends 12 so as to act as abutments to hold the slide in position.
The device thus afiords an expansible and contractile strap, whereby to obtain the object sought.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a wrist watch strap, a pair of sections having a loop at one end of each thereof, one of the sections having an intermediate loop adjacent its inner end, a substantially. C-shaped latch having its ends removably and slidably engaged in the intermediate loop, and a substantially U-shaped link having its closed end engaged in the loop at the inner end of the one section and having its free ends inturned and removably engaged in the loop at the inner end of the other section, the inner ends of the sections being formed to overlap and the latch being slidable over the inner end of the adjacent section and having frictional engagement with the sides of the link.
2. In a wrist watch strap, a pair of sections having a loop at one end of each thereof, a substantially U-shaped link having its closed end engaged in the loop of one section and having its free ends inturned and removably engaged in the loop of the other section, said linkends being movable in the respective loops to permit the adjacent parts of the sectionsto be overlapped and means to hold the sections overlapped.
3. In combination with a pair of sections having confronting spaced ends and having a loop at each of said ends, a link having arts removably engaged in each loop, the ink extending across the space between said ends, a second loop on one of the sections, and a member removably and slidably engaged with the second loop, said member upon overlapping of the ends of the sections being engageable with the link to hold the sections in their said overlapped relation.
4. In a wrist watch strap, a pair of sections, connecting means between the adjacent ends of the sect-ions to permit of overlapping thereof, a loop carried by one section,
and means engaged in the loop to hold the sections overlapped. a
5. In a Wrist Watch strap, a pair of sections, connecting means between the adgacent ends of the sections to permit of overlapping thereof, a loop carried by one section, and a 10 slide slidably mounted in the loop to hold the sections overlapped.
In testimony whereof I have signed my named to this specification.
CHARLES R. TO ST.
