Application led January This invention relates to improvements in cuff buttons and contemplates the provision of usual and ordinary types of cui'i' buttons which when used in combination with the holding means attached therewith will prevent loss as well as keepin@ the cuifs of the shirt in a fitting position with respect to the wrists of the wearer.

Another object of the invention is the provision of holding means'which extend from the lower side ofthe cuff button or cuff links and which extend under the meeting` ends of the cuff and attached to both of the lower sides of the cuff buttons or links in order that the said meeting ends of the cuff will he held in proper position and will not flare outwardly. y

A further object of the invention is the provision of ring` members adapted to 1oe positioned on the shaft of the cuir' buttons or upon the chains or connecting links of the cut-l" links `and which are adapted to normally lie flush with the inner sides of the, links or cuff buttons and having their lower end portions connected hy a chain or other resilient or pliable member in the forni of a chain which extends around and against the lower meeting' ends of a cuff in order to prevent loss of the cuff links or cuif buttons as well as to keep lthe said meeting ends of the cuil in proper position as well Vas'toform attractive attachment to the cuff' buttons, cufflinks and to thegeneral appearance of the 'cuff Yper se.

In Figure 3 of the drawing, there is shown a modification of my invention which includes links 12 or arcuate shaped loop members l2 and a linked chain 13, this form of the invention includes a pair of loop members 17 extending rom the lower side edges thereof, one of which is adapted to receive the end link of a chain 18 which has or includes upon the opposite end thereof a deside thereof and including upon theopposite end portion thereof an oval shaped disk 22, which completes the usual and ordinary ype of cuff button as aforementioned; in this form of the invention I provide a pair of oval shaped ring members 23` which are connected by a chain 24: and which link members are adapted to be positioned over the oval shaped disk members 22 and upon the arcuate shaped shaft or .bar 21 and after the cuff button has been inserted within the button Vholes provided in the cuff 10 the otherl ring 23 is slipped over the oval shaped diskk member 22 in order that the same may function within the same category as the preferred form and first modification respectively.

In Figures 6 and 7 of the drawings, Wherein the third modification of my invention is shown, I have provided a chain 25 which includes a detachable hook member v26 which is adapted to receive the opposite end link of the chain 25 therein yand the same is inserted within the button holes of the cuff 10 in order that the same may function inthe same category as the combined cuff links,

well as provide a very attractive and neat arrangement of cuff holding means.

In Figures 8, 9y and 1() on sheet 2 of the drawings, it is noted that a modification of the invention is shown as including a'pair of link members 27 and 28, the link 27 including an arcuate shaped bar 29 which includes a cross bar 30 uponthe opposite end portion thereof. The other link, namely, the link28 includes a transversely disposed elon- `gatedslot 31 which is adapted to receive the cross bar 30 of the arcuate shaped bar 29 therethrough and when the arcuate shaped bar 29 and link 27 are turned a quarter turn it will be noted that the cross bar 30 and the arcuate shaped bar 29 will extend transverselyof the elongated slot 31 whereby the links will be held against accidental displacement. In order to prevent loss of the links 27 and 28 there is provided a connect- K ing chain 32 which has its opposite end portions connected to the lower ends or sides of the links 27 and 28 respectively.

Referring to Fivures 11, 12 and 13 respectively on sheet 2 or the drawings and wherein another modification of my invention is shown and which include backs 33 which are preferably brass or the like and which include upon the upper sides vthereof annular flanges 34- whichextend upwardly therefrom an appreciable distance; these annular flanges 34 on the opposite links forming the complete cuff buttons are adapted to space 35 which is preferably formed of precious metal, such as gold and which has the edges thereof bent over the backs`33 as at 36. @ne

of these links includes an arcuate shaped bar 37 which includes a transversely extending bar member 38 upon the outer free end por tions thereof while the opposite companion -link member includes an elongated opening 39 in the back 33, and which further includes within the space defined between the backs 33 and fronts 35, a spring t() which is relatively flat and has its outer sides bearing against'the inner walls of the annular flanges 34 'and includes offset portions 11 and 4-2 which bring the meeting end portions of the spring 40 into superimposed relation and transversely of the elongated openings 39 provided therein.

' n It will thus be seen from the foregoing description and v.accompanying drawings that in this form, namely, asclearly illustrated in Figures 11, 12 and '13, that the bar member 38 upon the free end portion of the arcuate shaped lbar 37 ymay be inserted at an angle within the elongated slotsv39 and push the meeting end portions ofthe spring 40 downwardly in order to insertthe remainder of the cross bar 38, the links carrying the arcuate shaped vbarV 37 and cross bars 38 are then rotated a quarter turn within rthe opposite links and the meeting end portions of the springs 4:0 are then brought against the side of the cross bars 38 in order to hold the same transversely of the elongated slots 39`provided therein.

In this form of the invention further loss of the cuff links is prevented by connecting the opposite end portions of the link 43 to he lower sides kof the companion link memer. l

The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of i construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.

l-Iaving thus described my invention what is claimed is l. A cu holding member' of the character described comprising a pair of oval shaped members having openings provided Y adjacent one side edge thereof, loop members provided upon the inner sides thereof, linking means connecting said loop members, and connecting means positioned within the openings provided in the side edges of the links substantially as set forth.

2. A cuff holding member of the character described comprising a pair of substantially elongated plate members, loop members extending from the side edges and inner side portions thereof, linking means associating the loop means provided upon the inner sides of the plates and a chain member having one end link connected to one of the loop members provided upon the side edges and having a detachable hook member provided upon the opposite end portion thereof and adapted for selective engagement with the corresponding loop member provided upon 'the opposite plateJ member.

3. A cuff holder of the character described comprising a linked member having a detachable hook member provided upon one end thereof, said linked member adapted to be received within the but-ton holes of a cuff and having its detachable hook member hooked to the opposite end of the link member whereby the lower meeting end portions of the cuff will be prevented from flaring outwardly.

4. A cuff holder of the character described comprising a pair of cuff links, one

for the links extending over the annular flanges of the backs and having their edges bent over the backs of the links, one of the links including an arcuate shaped bar hav ing a relatively short transversely disposed bar provided upon the free end portion thereof, the opposite link member including a substantially elongated slot in theA back and a relatively fiat spring arranged with the space defined between the back and front of the links and bearing against the inner sides of the annular flanges, whereby the cross bars may be readily and easily inserted therein and having their opposite end portions extending centrally and transversely of the elongated slots provided in the backs whereby the relatively short transversely disposed bars may be readily and easily inserted within the elongated slots provided in the backs and held against accidental displacement therein through the spring tension of the meeting end portions of the spring.
